Im useless at this bike buying lark!

I was convinced that once i passed my DAS id rush out and buy the first bike i saw... and probably get mugged off in the process. In fact i would have bought the first bike i saw but the seller ended his ebay auction early.
Since then i just cant find the one for me. I reckon im just a picky bastard, or at least too tight Very Happy

I want to spend less than 2K - i want a 600/650cc bike that doesnt have millions of miles on the clock.
Id like a bit of fairing - and a bit of an all rounder as i may commute on it.

If anyone has one in the herts/essex area they want to sell me let me know please, or if anyone just likes searching ad pages for fun theres your challenge! Mr. Green

There are bargains out there, it just takes time and effort to find them. Of course they drop into your lap when you aren't looking for them. Laughing

You should just about be able to get one of the watercooled bandit S for £2000. Heavy beast though. Earlier Fazer for that money no preoblem.

My missus fancied a change of bike but wasn't in a rush. She wanted an ER6 and they were mostly going for £3000+ from dealers. I saw one on ebay, 58 plate, 7800 miles so I stuck a £2100 bid on it thinking I had no chance and won it Thumbs Up

Of course it's easy when you aren't desperate to get your new bike. Wink

Sounds like you want an SV650 or similar. The SV's can be had cheap as they were cheap when new, so just buy the best condition one for can for 2k. Milage means little, if it's done 5000 miles ragged and unmaintained it'll need tyres, chain etc and might be worn out. But buying one with 15000 miles that's been treated well and just has fresh bits would get you a far better bike.
I don't think i've ever owned a bike with legitimate traceable milage, i just do the jobs that need doing and they keep running just fine.

Miles don't mean much anymore, you can pick up a decent bike for so cheap!
i paid £600 for my bros 400 (little high) at 5000 miles 11 months tax and mot brand new tyres.

It can be frustrating, I found a bunch of non-sellers who had a bike listed but didn't really want to let it go.

By the way, Suzuki are doing September deals: a brand new SV650S is £4325 OTR at 0% finance. That should have some knock on effect on prices - I'd assume that dealers are raging about it, since it devalues their used stock - so this might be a good time to nab nearly new, if you can find someone willing to sell.

definitely know what you mean about people not really wanting to sell though... ive seen so many 'MUST SELL' titles - but when i make a reasonable offer they say they want the full asking price?! Rolling Eyes

The best deals are definitely on bikes under 3 years old with low miles being sold by folks who tried it and didn't like it. They don't sell straight away, but leave it in the garage on an optimiser and then eventually admit that it's got to go. Best prices seem to be on MT-03's and Gladius.

Some of these bikes are basically showroom condition.
