What is it with people these days....

They seem to have absolutely nil respect for your time, ah mate I'll see you at 8am..... three hours later, I'm still waiting.

Delivery companies.... ah yes we'll book you in for XZY time, and then not come.... ending up waiting all day for something.

Is it...

I know generally unreliable people and companies.

OR

British people are generally non confrontational in that when somebody is late, instead of going into a rage and beating them to death over it. They say its OK, thus making said unreliable people think it is OK. When clearly it is not OK.

Meh I'm constantly having to wait for stuff to arrive or people to turn up. Yet when I compensate by turning up late, they have the gall to scream at me for being late....

Meh, I think I should change suppliers and hope my current suppliers go bankrupt..... though they'll probably be sat on their arses holding their P45s wondering why their company went under.

My other half does that Rolling Eyes I have learned that 20 mins is 3 hours. His whole family do that to say they be down and just not appear at all some times when your waiting and I know a few others that do that on me to. Flaky people. I stop speaking to people like that and continue to fall out with my other half who has no concept of time at all.

I have a rule, with meeting people in pubs if I finish my drink and the other person isn't there, I go home.

For the cause of your frustrations, may I apologise... Being on of these people.
It is said that time is an illusion, clearly true, I ask you to define 'time'.
To me, it's not that I have "no respect" for time, I simply have no concept of the concept of time..
I can be out in 10 minutes if I wake up late, and it's at the mercy of the dice whether I'll catch that train in time or not...
I can have 4 hours to prepare, something will all ways pop up last minute, or delay me... or there just isn't enough time... Again it's a throw of the dice and more often or not I'll miss the train.

I thought it was just me but nope, I've recently come to realise that my Dad is just as bad, and he admits it..
My brothers are just plain unreliable, forget about time.. If they show up the same day they've said the will then we can count ourselves lucky.
And frankly I've come to expect it from many people, friends, proffesionals, tutors, boss's.. Doctors.

Forget about it, either join us and live life at a nice and relaxed pace... taking with it the risks and inherent failures of such a lifestyle or carry on with your gift of discipline and understanding of that mystical concept..
Keep calm and reap the rewards, knowing that because you can keep time you'll be the first in line, the one to win the prizes, to seize the opportunities, surely it's got to be easier to succeed the further ahead of the field you are.

I'm with Dragon on this one, 10 - 15 mins late OK, anything else without letting you know is bang out of order and should result in bike priveleges being removed.

Having said that, my oldest brother is ubber unreliable, and never on time Twisted Evil

People who are nearly always late do my nut in. It comes across to me as if the time I've spent waiting around for them is worthless, I too have better things to do than hang about waiting! I always try to aim to be there 10 minutes before.

As previously ranted, bike ride-outs are awful for this. Some folk are there for a ride, some are there to smoke fags, make calls, get another coffee from the van, then oh-I-didn't-fill-up-I'll-be-back-in-5-minutes-actually-I-need-to-get-fags-then-I'll-smoke-one-there-so-make-that-20.

I've learned with the local lot that "9:30 for a 10am set off, sharp" means I should turn up at about 10:30, then I'll only have a 45 minute wait.

If I say 10.00hr I mean 09.50hr when I have to be somewhere. If I'm waiting for someone then 10.00hr can stretch to 11.00hr so I will say 09.00hr to them and get there at 08.50hr myself.

People even do it before they leave with me. When I'm on call I'll often get a converstion like this (with someone who lives two minutes up the road from the practice and has called with an emergency):

"Right, I'll meet you at the practice. It'll take me 20 minutes to get there."

"So I'll see you there at 9 then?"

"No, it's eight o'clock now, it takes me 20 minutes to get there, I'll meet you at 20 past eight."

"So quarter to 9 then?"

"No, twenty past eight. I'm leaving now and will be there at twenty past unlocking the door. If your dog's just been run over, we should see it as soon as possible."

"Ok."

I get there, sit about until five past 9 and go home. They then call up at half past saying they're sat outside the surgery and nobody is there. Then they whinge like hell about being kept waiting and complain when I bill them extra for me doing a wasted 15 mile round trip and sitting twiddling my thumbs for 40 minutes when I should have been eating my dinner.

Do they ever ponder the wisdom of winding you up just before you're about to slice Fido open? Confused

Working in a University, I quickly found that post grad students seem to think 'Meeting starts at 9am' to mean 'come through the front door of the building, mooch around and come to the ongoing meeting at 9:10am'. Extra hair-drying for interrupting me or asking to repeat anything.

Have a couple of friends that consistently turn up late. I just tell them to get there half an hour before I tell everyone else to. That way they're usually about right. Mugs.

I've got one mate who is so consistently late by such huge amounts that we frequently run a sweepstake as to what time he'll actually turn up.
£1 to enter, 15 minute slots, usually something in the region of 2 to 3 hours late wins the bet.

Does my nut in, where i work i cant leave untill cover arrives but they never come at 3pm always 5-30 mins late, always the fault of a bus, but its so often it feels like a pisstake, i do the british thing of "oh its ok" maybe i should start being rude back.

Personally i coildent trust someone with anything important if they cant show up at the time they are supposed to.

One of our last assistants was ALWAYS late in for work. Usually just a couple of minutes (sometimes half an hour) but it's still annoying.

She used to blame the clock for being wrong so I bought one of those radio controlled ones. She was still late but couldn't argue about it any more.

She never did get the hang of the unwritten rule that the employee who turns up late gets given the shittiest job to do. If you're first in, you have the moral high ground to take the pick of the mornings jobs.

I am so rarely late that if it's more than five minutes after when I should have been in, one of the receptionists calls me to make sure I'm ok. Quite a good thing really because until recently I lived by myself.

im sorry to say, i am that person ;(

not like hours, but 15mins late is often my time of choice. whats worse is i'll often be sitting around waiting to go then suddenly 20mins disappears and its 5mins before i gotta be somewhere. dunno how i manage it.

my mates say the same about me ;( always getting wound up about it.

that said, another one of our group is even worse. he'll say he'll be somewhere and he'll be 1-2 hours late, and thats if he turns up at all. annoys the crap out of even me. at least im reliable, if a little late

I get mega angry when people do that.

If I say I will be somewhere at 5, I will be there 10 mins either side. I know some people who will just not turn up when they say they will.
