Looking at finally passing my car test this year and maybe getting a motor.
This question is confusing me
What type of licence do you have, that is easy UK full.
How long have you held it, now I passed my bike test in 2005, but would have passed my car test only recently.
If I put 0 years prices are £1500+ if I put 6 prices are £700.

Car insurance, How long have you held your CAR entitlement.
You have a FULL BIKE LICENCE now, provisional car.
When you pass car test you'll have held your FULL UK CAR for 1 day.. the date will be stamped on the bike.
Hope that helps.
1st year car insurance...and subsequent performance cars are so expensive.

OK, well your insurance will see it as how long have you had your full uk licence with car entitlement..
They aren't fussed if its a bike, you didnt gain experience in a car if you get what I mean. Your car pass will be stated on the back... if it worked that way people would just used the first date they passed
I'd have an additional year giving me another discount, wont work that way.
Like having a car since 2004 and then getting DAS in 2011 and getting a GSXR, saying you have had licence since 04 will obviously give you better quotes, but insurers will just cancel insurance when you send in copy of licence |

Seriously? Are you sure you aren't trolling?
They are ONLY INTERESTED in the licence for which is required to legally drive the vehicle you are getting a quote on! Later on you can put "Own a motorcycle" or whatever but it makes no odds to them whether you've had a motorcycle licence for 1 year or 50 years.
TL;DR: Licence entitlement that legally permits you to drive the vehicle you are quoting for.
Some companies will allow you to put your bike NCB on your car, it is worth asking. ! ____________________ "Four wheels move the body, two wheels move the soul."

It says, what type of license do you have that entitales you to drive this vehicle? You say full.
It then says how long have you held the license selected above?
It's referring to car license. ____________________ CBT Passed: 30/08/2009, Theory Passed: 31/08/2010, Mod 1 Passed: 6/9/2010, Mod 2 Passed: 13/09/2010. Restriction ended 13/09/2012.

They cant have their cake and eat it.
In this country you can only hold one licence wth multiple entitlements. That license is ether full, provisional, or even full with additional provisional entitlement. All points go onto the one licence as you can only hold ONE. Therefore when insurance ask how long have you held your licence then the answer is the issue date printed on it, as the question is looking for driving experience.
When I worked insurance, you would be surprised how many held their provisional for 4/5 years or more, in fact by passng their test it was a factor in increasing price that the "held licence" reverted to o years.
So you currently have a full licence, thats it. ____________________ Fallen Angel "Nae sniffing my seat now!!!!! "

A reasonable person would conclude that they're interested in how long have you've had car entitlement. That reasonable person test is what will ultimately matter, in the event of a dispute. Don't try to get smart, you're only kidding yourself.
Of course, if they come back and say "Oh, sure, bike entitlement counts, have £800 off the price", I'm cheerfully eat my lid. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

You haven't looked into insurance have you?
Don't expect it to be logical
TPO cover on a Volvo T5 Estate,
£3500
TPFT cover, more expensive surely...
£3100
Add my Dad to the policy as a named driver, more expensive right? adding another driver.
£2500
Changing parking from on the drive to on the road.
£2400
Adding my mum to the policy as well
£2200
Changing my Job Title from Data Analyst to Data Processor

Okay if you want to put 5/6 do it
Then when you send your driving license off and they look at the date you passed your DRIVING test and see it wasn't 6 years and they cancel your insurance you'll then have to declare that you've had insurance cancelled etc.
Currently you have had a car provisional for 5/6 years so if you were getting insurance for a car on l's you would put the 5/6 years. ____________________ CBT Passed: 30/08/2009, Theory Passed: 31/08/2010, Mod 1 Passed: 6/9/2010, Mod 2 Passed: 13/09/2010. Restriction ended 13/09/2012.

| dragstaar wrote: | Right, just called Aviva, Direct Line and Churchill.
They all said the same thing which is this:
"What type of Licence held?" This means, what licence do you hold at this moment in time in relation to the vehicle you are wishing to insure? So If its a Bike, what type of Bike licence do you have? (Provisional or Full - they don't pay attention to A1 or A2 entitlements, you just need to have to right one for the bike you want)
"Period Licence Held For?" This is unrelated to the above question. This, they just want to know how long you've had the Licence as an item. forget about entitlements, forget about everything. Just when did you first get your licence. Aviva and DirectLine even went as far to include any Provisional time on your licence. Churchill said from when your photocard turned pink. (or if you're an old'un from when you first passed a test). Churchill were the also the only people that said that if you passed your Bike licence 7 years ago, and your car 4 years ago, and you want to insure a car, then the answer to this question would be 4 years. they don't count the bike years. All the other companies said they count the bike years too.
There you go, all clarified! |
