Well, I was bored, so first I decided to strip the bike and have a bit of a clean.....

Under the tank, I shifted the airbox, and moved the powervalve servo out of the way, gave both a good clean, cleaned all the cables and tubes, cleaned the carb, and the oil/coolant reservoirs....

After putting it all back together I decided I was still bored, so I went down, got the spare rear brake pedal/footpeg arrangement, and fitted it to my bike (my old one had a ton of free play in). I hooked the whole lot up, adjusted the pedal for movement, adjusted the brake light actuator, and noticed that while the rear brakes were now super sharp, they still squeaked a little.

Off with the rear caliper, out with the pads (which were indeed glazed), and onto them with some sandpaper, and some copaslip (front and back respectively). Pads back in, caliper back on (cheers for the guide Korn), repressurised the system, and now my rear brakes are sharp as hell, AND don't squeak Very Happy Thumbs Up .

Not a bad day's work Dance!.

Just make sure you don't test them on the road!!!!

Today i flushed the radiator, i absoloutely can't believe the **** that was in there!!! Shocked

A note to anyone changeing coolant DO NOT use sillicone sealant on the bolt, i've just got the last of it out of the radiator. Its now got loctite thread lock on it instead which wont end up floating arround in the lets face it pritty important cooling system.

A bit nerve wracking at first but it was pritty straight forward, apart from pulling the carbs to bits (going to get an old one to play with) and the engine innards (i'm sure there will be a time) it was the only thing i was nervous about doing.

Unlike some things fixing/maintaining your bike is more satifying if you do it yourself, and you know its been done properly, and you also know what to do if you get stuck in the middle of nowhere...

Since there's already been a couple mentions about the rear brake, maybe this is the appropriate venue for my question. I'm sure it's a stupid one, but that just means I'll get an answer right away. Wink

When I depress the back brake firmly when traveling at speed, what is that clicking noise I hear?

Could be a warped disc?
Not sure what noise you're referring to.

Naw, it's not a warped disk. From what I've seen all bikes do it when you stomp the back. It's definitely a mechanical clicking noise, somewhat muffled as if it's in some sort of casing. It kinda sounds like there's a mechanism to stop the movement of something when you have the back wheel locked.

If you still have no clue as to what I'm babbling on about, have a look at this. You'll notice the crazy bastard stomps his rear brake almost everytime he needs to slow down. That's when that little repetitive clicking sounds usually starts in. Bear in mind that it's barely audible since the mic is all the way up on the tank.

*edit - it's most apparent right at 4 minutes in.

What an absolute mad bastard! Puts Ghost Rider to shame.

Methinks he'll be needing a new back tyre. That clicking noise - might it be the chain bouncing a bit? Or at least something sounds loose or rattly, hmm.

Show this video to RooRoo, his/her fear of filtering will be cured no doubt!!

Absolute nutter! I lost count of the number of red lights that he seemed to jump. Did notice he calmed down very slightly when he cruised past a police bike though... Shocked

That clicking noise is just a normal noise, I get it from my front brakes. its basically how the calipers work.
I have been told by a bike technician its the pads being knocked back in by the disc and cos this is being done at a high RPM it sounds like a quiet clicking ticking noise.

[edit]Just watched the vid, and that isn't the same clicking I was on about, that seems very disconcerting, sounds like loose pads or something?[/edit]
