I have been using WD 40 to clean my drive train before lubing it.Does that sound OK. Also how do people clean the WD 40 off my brushes etc. Have tried Muc Off and Fairy dishwasher stuff. Neither worked. I know some people leave theirs dirty, but Id rather not. Any suggestions?

I tend to use paraffin.

WD40 isn't so good on rubber o-rings. Fairy washing up liquid isn't bike friendly due to its high salt content (and abrasive properties).

don't put degreaser near the chain or wd40. clean it with paraffin as this won't hurt the o-rings. Re lube the chain with motor oil or a chain spray of choice.

I ruined a good DID chain by using WD40.It caused quite a few tight links that were very difficult to loosen. This mistake ended up costing me nearly £100 for a new chain.

I've used paraffin to clean, then engine oil to lube many times and it does the job....but the "fling" from the oil is a bastard Evil or Very Mad and dust and shite sticks to the oiled chain,

I've got a mate who uses wurth brake and chain cleaner, and wurth hi performance dry chain lube and swears by it.... so when I got my new chain I thought I'd try them both...

it is awesome stuff, I won't use anything else now, the cleaner comes out in powerful jet and desolves muck and grime then evaporates leaving the chain clean and dry.
The chain lube goes on like water so gets in all the gaps then it dries leaving an almost clear, very thin "waxy" coating that is truly dry to the touch so nothing sticks to it so it stays cleaner for longer.
I've done my chain with it twice now, and I recon there's enough cleaner for 2 more go's and enough lube for 4 more applications.

All in all....excellent stuff Thumbs Up Mr. Green

The way I cleaned the chain etc was wd40-leave to soak for a bit-agitate with a brush-cover the whole bike(inc drive train) in SDOC100-leave it to soak a bit more then hose the lot. Then use some chain lube. Does this sound like a good system? Will the SDOC clean the WD off the chain and prevent the damage people are talking about. First bike etc so am still trying to find my feet really.
Thanks for your patience. Thumbs Up

I use Fuchs Silkolene Chain Lube. Any user comments on any of the products would be appreciated.

Paraffin and one of those 3 sided gunk brushes to clean, 90w gear oil to lube. As long as you go over it lightly with a rag afterwards, it doesn't fling nearly as much as engine oil (which I used to use), if at all. Thumbs Up
