This 50 has taken my fancy for a first bike. Looks cool, 6 gears, fast (or so ive heard), havent heard any stories about unreliability. Can anyone tell me different or do you know any for sale.

Looks alright. Why are you after a 50? Is it an age thing, or just fancy one for commuting etc?

Why not do your CBT when you're 16, and go for either a 4 stroke 125 (such as a CG125 or yamaha xvs dragstar 125), or a restricted race rep 125 (such as a Honda NSR, Aprilia RS125, cagiva mito)

Just a thought!

50cc only for 16. From 17 can do 125.
Some info here

The Gilera looks ok. One for sale on eBay.
Can't see the point of 50cc race reps myself Confused

It seems there is a stigma attached to getting a 50cc, most 16 year olds bar me and a minority seem to think they will get an ultra cool status with a race rep, but when it comes down to it, it does the same job. OK so you get some experience on the gears which is very good, but they are I think a waste of money.

Isn't the gsm basically a trail bike with road tyres? its not a replica like a aprilia rs50 or the yamaha tzr50. The gsm is no different than a derbi senda apart from the fact that it looks cooler. and everyone has been telling me to get one of those.

Looks very different to my derbi senda. Their is a new gilera bike that is a re-badged derbi though. Surprised

All geared fiftys are much of a muchness. They'll all do about the same top speed and are as reliable as you want them to be.

Don't go for the race reps. An off road style 50cc is the better option. Parts aren't hard to find if you need them as they're powered by a commonly used motor, same as in the Aprilia Rs 50 and many others.

Does it really matter if other people like it or not? It's your money so surely it only matters if you like it?

Not something I'd get, I'd look at spending about £800 maximum on a DT50 or TS50 type thing so as not to make big losses when selling it as shiney tarty 50cc bikes I don't see the point of as it will just cost you lots to repair when it's dropped or crashed.

DT 50 is a yam
TS 50 is a Suzook

BTW, the gilera GSM is a non offical UK model or possibly an import of an unsuccessful old model... Official UK gilera motoX 50 is the RCR50... so getting a gsm mite incur higher insurance premiums - did u find the bike at J&S accessories btw, because thats where i know that definately stocks them. Having said that, if you're on the market for a 50 moto cross stylee - plenty of good derbi senda R's about for 900 quid ... stay away from race reps... even 2nd hand RS50's as most are usually shagged, due to mechanical neglect or incompotence of previous owners! If you drop race reps, face a hefty bill Mr. Green Thumbs Up

Well Gilera are part of the whole Piaggio/Vespa corporation aren't they? They are Italian and the electronics are indeed...shit. My Brake light connector has gone so many times it is unbelieveable.

The GSM is an official import, and a recent one.

All the best
