hi, after doing a couple of track days this summer on my road bike, ive just sold my enduro bike and am now in the market for track bike.

i have £2000 tops to spend and ive seen a few r6's and cbr 600s aswel as a zx7r.

my questions are is there any bikes i could get wich are fitted with a slipper clutch as standard?

and are the cbr 600 or r6 be better than the zx7r?

i know everyone always says get a 600f and a mate of mine has just bought one but id like something i can keep a few years rather than need to upgrade. and the 600f's are getting on abit now.

thanks

I'd go for a modernish 600 over a zx7r any day.
Presuming both are fairly standard, I'd go for the R6 for track use.
If the CBR is heavily modified, then it's going to make less odds.

For £2k basically, I'd just go for the best condition/spec modern 600 you can find.

do you get a slipper clutch in a 2000 r6? if not is it worth getting one?

Go for the R6 out of those then, and no slipper clutch as standard. Personally I wouldn't spend out on one until you're fast enough to have problems with the rear wheel hopping on corner entry. If you have one right from the off it'll just breed sloppiness IMHO.

Won't get a slipper clutch as stock for quite a few years after that.

Shouldn't find no slipper clutch a big issue on the r6.
My 675 is definitely worse than the two early r6s I had and that's still manageable if you remember to blip. Don't really have to think about it much for my recent slower place (still fast group) trackdays. Racing I did find it more of an issue.

do what tommy done and get a an old 600 but try an find something with sorted suspension as this will teach you how to get the most from your bike. PI r6s are your best bet as everyone says as parts will be plentiful and cheap which is what you need for old bikes.

after losing out on the 2 r6's i was after ive seen a 94 cbr 600. its got ohlins shock and re-valves suspension e.c.t. and seems good.

my question is,
it says its had a 180 tyre conversion. why do they do this? also is there anything i should ask or check on this model apart from the usual?

Personally I wouldnt go for anything older than the alloy frame cbr (fx fy 1999 2000) model. I assume the 180 convertion is because if dont properly there will be more tyre contact to the surface and secondly I think its much easyier to get 180 sized tyres secondhand than the 160's

Actually, 160s are on offer quite a lot too - as there's a smaller market for them, plenty available. They are used by 'minitwins' as well as other associated classes - ie many thunder bikes etc.

A 160 section rear tyre has plenty of grip to do fast lap times.

However, with £2k to spend, I'd probably agree with you regardless - for lighter feeling weight if nothing else.
