How much does it cost? I know it will vary depending on the persons age, current fitness and genetic disorders etc but a rough figure.

Anyone on here have it?

When I am rich I will go private, but I was wondering how rich I need to be. Laughing

I am talking about full cover, any ops, long term illnesses etc all covered.

It's like any other kind of insurance in that it depends on individual circumstances, what level of cover you want, etc..

I just did a BUPA quote, 40something, fags, work in IT, full cover with all the extras 146 quid a month.

I got health care out when they told me I had cancer.

Helped me out as it got me to the "top" of the queues as such.. got me in for treatment sooner rather than later.

I now pay £89 a month, work helped knock a bit off.

That's what I found when I was diagnosed with Hodgkins' Lymphoma, the 'private' treatment was actually at a NHS unit since they were the only place with the radiotherapy gizmo, but I went from diagnosis to treatment being under way in about a week.

Its much easier to get a job with cover, mine costs me the tax liability on 58/month with no excess.

I get it free through work but haven't got a clue how it works.

If I wake up tomorrow with a sore toe, do I just go to a normal doctors or are there special doctors for people with private healthcare?

I got a big booklet thing that probably explains it all but I can't be arsed reading it.

Usually you need a referral from your GP, and there's probably an xs of a hundred quid. Always check with the insurers before undergoing private treatment, they don't cover everything and the bills are terrifying.

We pay for private healthcare for my entire family which is my mother, my father, me and my partner.

Averaged out it is £65 for each of us which makes it £260/month.

It is absolutely fantastic, so many reasons why it's infinitely better I could list, I'll only list a few:

A) You go to NICE hospitals as you pick the hospital you are treated at, they are clean, big rooms (INDIVIDUAL rooms) and the Staff are all lovely.

B) If you have an appointment at say, 2:30pm, you get there for 2:15pm and at 2:30pm someone comes out and says:

"Mr/Mrs/Miss <name>? You will be seen now."

Then directs you to your room where you are seen by a Doctor who waits with you, takes his time and doesn't feel like he wants to be out of the room in seconds as they will actually chat with you about whatever you need and more.

C) When you want to see your GP about something, you ring and you get an appointment quickly. None of this NHS "Uh, we're full until next week" bollocks.

D) You pick your consultant, you pick your hospital, you pick your clinic and everything else.

I have plenty more but I will stop there, such as if you have to stay overnight with the patient (even voluntarily) they will cover your overnight fees. If anything my favourite is that the hospitals are clean, look fantastic, big rooms with LOVELY Staff and the fact you NEVER EVER have to wait more than 5-10 mins longer than you should.

"Welcome to A&E, the waiting time is 2.5 hours." Fuck that again.

Get it, for myself on my own it's only £65/month which is fully comprehensive care and it's worth every penny. There is no way I'd go back.

Also, as said above, the times between things is astonishing. Before we had it and I broke my finger, it went:

2 Hours in hospital, sent to another hospital.
1 hour journey, 2 hours there, sent home told to return at 7am NO EATING.
Got there 7am, told can't operate today, come back tomorrow at 7am.
Got there at 7am, got an x-ray, waited 2 hours, told no need to operate, splinted up and sent home.

They even said if I needed an operation it'd be a few days before I could get it. This has more story to it later on (when they decided I DID need a fudging operation!) which is interesting.

Then, aftercare, each time I had a checkup:

Get there half hour before appointment, told to go to x-ray.
1 hour in x-ray waiting, go back, hand in card.
1.5 hours waiting, talk to doctor, results will be ready in 2-4 weeks.

Brick Wall Evil or Very Mad Brick Wall Evil or Very Mad Brick Wall.

Private? Go in, get called in, do scan, talk to doctor, results, you need an operation.

Week later, you are in theatre whereas on the NHS the national guidelines for orthopaedic surgery waiting times are currently 6-12 weeks and the last time we had Tories governing us they were 3-6 MONTHS. That way elderly folk who were in dire need of a hip replacement often died needing one, it's disgusting.

Go private. Thumbs Up.

typical bloke ..suffered for ages before i went to docs.

Got lump and a tremendous ache where a lad shouldn't have such lumps.

Cue quack saying 3 weeks Just to see about a scan.... Shocked

Pull out the work perk, Bupa card..that day (Monday ) referral, 2 days later, wednesday seen by docs and scanned, 3 days later Saturday treatment starts...all good.. Thumbs Up

so one week all done and sorted..OR 3 weeks later (filled with worry and pain) might get seen by NHS....mmmhh

win for BUPA, me thinks.

IF its a job package snap it up, if paying yourself do some homework, there are costs and as others have said,
it doesn't cover everything..but it is nice to have.... Cool

Surely if you get cancer and then take out private health care, it would cost a lot more?

I did some quotes on BUPA. With everything ticked from dental care, opticians, cancer assist (they give you 2k if you get cancer just to help you along), worldwide travel cover and fully comp cover, I could get it for £105 a month.

Normal fully comp cover would be £50 a month. If I get a job with a decent salary, it will be on my list of things to get.

Yes...it did.

Working for Honda got my payments lowered, a perk of the job I suppose. Was paying £112 a month, now its £89.
