Looking at a Chinese bike for my mate (yeah I know they're crap but it's quite cheap). The barrel isn't on it, because he lost the key, so he removed it to essentially hotwire it. He has since found the key but the barrel is no good.

Don't think it's nicked but obviously I'll do a check on it etc. So my question is... I can't find any barrels for that particular bike on eBay, are the fittings universal?

Ebay ad bar seems to think so..... Thumbs Up

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110749584235&clk_rvr_id=269021935253&item=110749584235&lgeo=1&vectorid=229508

As it's only a Chinese 125 I'd probably say yes, with proper bikes then I'd say it's highly unlikely.

Both of my take-aways have the ignition barrel and steering lock separate, which is a good sign that they're fairly universal. In essence, the ignition barrel is just a few electrical contacts and a rotary switch, there's nothing tricky going on in there.

Cool.

It's a Skyjet SJ-125. Any experience of these?

I believe the engines are decent quality it's just the fixtures and fittings that are poor?

how about two switches instead. one in a hidden place and one somewhere obvious like on your tank . you dont need a key at all then . very easy to do and cost effective

a mate of mine has a sky jet cbr rep.And to be honest has been pretty reliable in the 12mnths he's has it. Smile .only thing it has needed doing was change to decent oil and plug plus some decent tires.and going round all the nuts and bolts with a little thread lock.

Nothing wrong with the skyjet IF you do as above, loctite some bolts and actually service the damn thing.

Electrics can get a bit shocking... but hey, its character Laughing

Although, they are nothing on their CBR counterpart.. I waltzed past one on a dual carriageway on the way to work with the CBR...with no fairings at all. Then I changed to 5th.. and left him. Not fast mind you... but I'd hate to be stuck doing 60mph.

Lol it's his first 125 so I don't think he'll notice it being slow, I think anything you jump on for the first time seems fast, I remember my CBR125TDC feeling like a rocket! Razz Then I got the TZR and that was world's apart.

So we'll give the bolts a good going over and hopefully it will be alright for him, managed to get it for 400 T&T 12 months.

What about something like a Cyclone C-11 (£23) and you could have remote starting? Cool

There are some selling for 600-700 @ 3 years old. Obviously paying less would've been better, but it was the cheapest one I could see that didn't have any MAJOR issues or have no MOT.

Anyway I get the joy of riding it 80 miles up the M1 as my mate is on his CBT, so I hope nothing falls apart on me lol.

It never hurts to ask.

Don't sweat it, worst case you can part out the plastics to CBR owners and make a fair bit back.

Just bear in mind that it's got an air cooled CG125 cloned pushrod lump in it, you'll be doing a real 50-55mph regardless of whatever fantasy figure the speedo is showing, and if you peg it for that distance, you may arrive missing a few nuts and bolts.

Oh well at least it will make me appreciate the GPZ haha. My next question is probably a stupid one, but I am going to ask anyway, as I am going to get asked eventually... can you make them go any faster? Air filter/carb/exhaust?

My original advice to my friend was just to do his DAS but he only wants it for commuting to university for his last year in England, then he's off.
