Hi all,

Spotted this, and just curious as to what the silver balls that allow movement are called? Love the look of the product but not at that price! Shocked

Thanks all

They don't sell direct, and most companies I've found want a minimum order. I don't see a need for 50 of them, short of some practical jokes relating to a door matt.

I'll be making a few phone calls tomorrow morning.

Never mind that.

What/who is that product for? I can't see how it would work or why you would want it.

Nothing quite says pr!ck like putting balls under a door matt for when you come home for work and end up in A&E for head injuries.

Seriously? It was a sarcasm due to the lack of uses that anyone would have for castors like that. Rolling Eyes

I suppose in theory you could park your bike with the front wheel close to a wall and then, with the help of this wondrous device, push the rear end around so that it is also close to the wall.

Why? Save space I guess.

How do you get that under the wheel of a 200kg bike in the first place? And how can you slide it without folding the stand (in which case the bike would slide out and topple over)? It can only end in tears...

Found a company that sell them, for a mere £2 each I can have them to my door! They did advise strongly against using them for the purpose I intended, since they'll quickly fill up with the dust and crap from the concrete floor, eventually seizing them and rendering them useless.

Back to the drawing board.

It won't move as smoothly as bearing but you could knock up something like this fairly easily, just make it the right size for the rear wheel.

Having little experience of anything like this. What material would you expect I would need to be strong enough to support the weight of the wheel, without bending in the middle and grinding on the ground?

Thanks

You could probably get away with 3/4" ply, a few bits of angle and a couple of strips of steel. If you can stand on it without it bending then it should be fine with the bike.

19mm (3/4) is not a problem to roll a bike on to. My suggestion was simply a way that your average DIY / Bodger could knock something up.

Thanks for the offer, please make me one. I guess the OP would like one as well.
