...by only a bad description of the intro!!

So the intro is electronic piano, a very simple couple of bars looped at most, which i believe starts with or builds with some distortion or other effects before the main tune kicks in.

There may also be some tempo change.

I remember watching a doc where Gilmour played it in his shed on the original electric piano from the time, but I've no idea what the tune is from which it comes.

Thanks! Karma

Sorry been busy. I'd hazard a guess at echoes too.

Yes, Echoes does seem to be the most likely solution, but I'm not sure it is exactly what I remember.

Going to have to scour the web for the clip from the doc - it was on BBC and at least 5 years ago. At least.

What brought me to ask was driven from the intro to 'Welcome to the Machine' which is rather awesome, and I was after something similarly good from them. The simple piano 'riff' sprang to mind.

Thanks for those who tried! Thumbs Up

There are a TON of songs that could be played on piano by Gilmour... Does he play the entire thing on just the piano or does it change to the actual song?

To begin with a few possibilities:

High Hopes
Echoes
Great Gig In The Sky (Can't see it being this to be honest).

There are a few songs off Obscured by Clouds that could go this way IF played entirely on piano alone, such as Burning Bridges or Stay.

I'm sure there are many more I can't think of right now (2:30am!) but if it isn't anything suggested on this thread then try to find the documentary on YouTube again.

Personally I know nowt about PF but I asked an addicted friend who agrees Echos but also adds

"if you heard it on TV the one PF song they use on all kinds of over music and documentaries is

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QCQTr8ZYdhg

BBC play this to death but its guitar rather than piano so my money is on Echoes......stunning"

You sure it's not "On the run"?

Where he's in the "shed" and he has about 4 different notes on a strange contraption... He changes the tempo and modulation etc until it sounded like the track?

I reckon Pinkyfloyd and Oldpink should hang their heads in shame and promptly and quietly change their names because Chrismeister is the new Sheriff in town!

While I would in normal circumstances agree and hang my heads in shame. (Both of them) I draw ones attention to this:

This is a poor discription because Echoes does have an intro with an electric piano while Run Like Hell is played on electric guitar. Had the OP said it started with distorted guitars then it would have been obvious that the song in question was Run Like Hell.

I only knew because I remember the scene in the documentary, you described. If I hadnt seen that then there was no chance of guessing the right track.
