Couldn't find any motorbike bays in town so parked up on the pavement next to the cycle racks. The pavement is about 20 foot wide so looked a good place to leave it where it wouldn't be in anyones way.

Come back from the shops 30 minutes later and theres a ticket sitting on the bike Sad

Anyway, the contravention on the ticket is marked as "Parked in a restricted street during prescribed hours". Fair enough if I was parked on the road as it's no parking 9-5 (not that there are any yellow lines but there is a sign). But since I was on the pavement I don't see how that offence covers it and I'm tempted to try telling them to fuck off. Anyone think it's worth a challenge?

Read about parking tickets there. It will tell you exactly what to say/do.

I park my bike on the pavement outside my house everynight. First time I parked on pavement, there was a traffic warden wandering past, so i asked her if I would get a ticket there, and she said.... "I'm not supposed to tell you this.........but............. we cannot do anything about it on the pavement" The only people that can remove it are the police.

I have been parking my bike there since this time and that was 10th August 2011, and I still havent had ticket.

I would contest it. Definately !!

Well.. I cant get a photo of my place as its just out of google maps view, but we have a sign between 9.30am and 5.30pm we arent allowed to park/use that road unless its a delivery to a shop.

There is perfectly good access to the path, but that is also considered part of the road. According to the parking people, no lines mean there is no end to the road which means it also counts the pavement too.

Personally I park in a private road on the path or a bike parking bay Thumbs Up

Off the top of my head:

If you're in That London, all parking on all footways is prohibited.

If you're in the Provinces, then parking on footways is allowed unless prohibited.

However, a footway means a way comprised in a highway which also comprises a carriageway, and AFAICT, the same parking restrictions that apply to the carriageway also apply to the footway. As in, if you can't park on the road, you can't park on the pavement either.

Go ahead and appeal it though, check the signage, ask to see their evidence, and the Traffic Management / Regulation Order that covers the area and see if it matches up with the reality on the ground. See how much you can make it cost them, especially if you can catch them out.

If I use my ped I will park it next to cycles and never had a problem unless no jobs-worth traffic warden has not seen it seen it yet.
But now I'm very unsure if I should still park like that now.

The most important thing is who issued it. If it was a private parking company then you can safely ignore it. If it was issued by the council, then pay up.

It was issued by the council, but strangely not the council in which I was parked. I guess they must subcontract their parking control to a neighbouring council.

I also had a check and there are no dedicated bike parking bays in the whole town, so fuck knows where I was supposed to park. I'll get the train next time. Wankers Mad
