As some people may be aware i recently started sixth form to do my A levels. However i've found it to be very boring. The work isnt particularly difficult but i have no real interest in it. For this reason im looking into doing an apprenticeship. I want to do an apprenticeship with a motorcycle manufacturer or main dealer as that's what im interested in.

I know suzuki and honda offer apprenticeships but currently neither have vacancies, i was wondering if anyone on here knew of any other manufactures offering apprenticeships. Or if anybody knew if any vacancies would be arising in the near future?

Get yourself logged onto the Apprenticeship website: https://www.apprenticeships.org.uk/ and then ask at your local Connexions, and ask at your 6th form college careers office. Thumbs Up

Thanks for your reply! Ive just registered with the apprenticeship website, there's not a lot there at the moment but i'll keep checking.

You'll be waiting almost a year to start an apprenticeship now, most start in august/september as you'll most likely do day release to a local college.

Not quite. Those employers that miss the September/October start of term will most likely start them in January.

If that was the case, why are the vacancies on the NAS site closing at seemingly arbitrary dates, ignoring the September cutoff?

These are two completely different kettles of fish. Manufacturers are where the engineers live designing and building the machines, where dealers are for the showrooms and mechanics.

If you're finding school easy and boring why not study something more relevant to what you want to do? If you're doing maths or physics you could supplement it with real world engineering problems to liven it up.

You can always learn some spannering with your own bike but if you can take engineering at uni there's a chance you could be building your own race car or other cool stuff in the future.

This.
If you want to progress qualification wise in the future it is much easier if you have good grades at A level, which if your finding it easy should be...easy.
Apprenticeships can also take a long time to complete, and they only get you to the same level as A levels [Level 3 qualification].
I recommend you study some relevant A levels and ace them, whilst teaching yourself practical skills on your own bike, or better yet find a job in a garage.

Thanks for everyone's replies i think i'll stick with the A-levels. Ive also contacted a few local bike shops and race teams to see if they have any weekend jobs etc.

Having said that, A-Levels don't mean diddly when applying for jobs. They are a gateway to higher education but it is extremely rare to see a job spec that specifies A-Levels, rather than something like 'a relevant level 3 qualification' or 'educated to A-Level standard or equivalent'.

Don't forget an apprenticeship (and we're really talking advanced apprenticeships here) can lead to HNDs and further, whilst still working and by the time you've got that level 3 you should be on a decent wedge too.
