Second, how long is this valid for?, third what is the next step if I wish to use my ybr 125 and be restricted to 33hp?, this mod 1 and 2 are these the actual tests or do I need lessons if im learning on the road at the moment and then can I just do the actual practical test?.
Thanks. |

There is a link to online test bookings.
There is also a link to Test Fees price list; I believe that the ?Theory/Hazard is £31.
If you wish to test on your 125, you need to book tests for 'Standard Bike'.
Yes the Mod 1 Motorcycle test is a test, as is the Mod 2 motorcycle test... why, strangely enough they are called 'tests'.... they could have called them Assessements, or Riding apraisals, possibly even Driver Audits or something stupid, but amonts to the same thing; qualified bloke gives you riding tasks to do, watches you do them, makes sure you are safe; satisfy him and his clip board, gioves you a 'pass' certificate; dont impress him, he gives you a 'fail'.
You dont HAVE to have lessons..... you can turn up and hope you do everything 'right'..... if you have had nothing but CBT, though, I doubt you will, and a few lessons with an instructor to give you a few tips and let you know what the examiner expects will be rather useful......
Mod 1 is only £15.50, you might not deem it worth while taking lessons for it, and just use dosh to keep re-testing.... but at £75 a pop for Mod 2, probably rather more worth while. ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!

Hmm the general reply is 2 years as that is the norm however with the laws changing in 2013 ... then it's not really 2 years..
Actually that is a good question |
Very good question...
Post Jan 2013......
any CBT cert issued prior to that will still be valid until its second aniversary.
any Theory / Hazard priot to that will still be valid until its second aniversary
any Mod 1 cert will be valid until its expiry date....
BUT.... you must take Mod 1 on same class of bike as you take Mod 2 on.....
As now; we have:
'light-bike' take both mods on sub 120cc bike
'Standard Bike' both mods on a 125
'DAS Bike' both mods on bike over 25Kw..
So, what happens if you take Mod 1 BEFORE Jan 2013, BUT dont get Mod 2 until after?
Light Bike > A1 up to 125 you MUST test on a 125....
Standard Bike > a2 you must test on a 35Kw 400
DAS Bike > A you must test on full power bike over 45Kw...
So; if you have done Mod 1 on a currenytly DAS eligible 400cc 43Kw GS500? currently DAS eligible, but not post Jan 2013?
What if you have done Standard Licence? will they down grade that so you can count it towards an A1?
What if you take Mod 1 on a C90 for 'Light-Bike' will they honour it if you put in for Mod 2 on a 125?
Little mine field there, isn't there?
OR will they cut to the chase and simply say, that if you haven't got BOTH mods done by Jan 2013, under existing rules; certs are 'redundant' and you'll have to repeat test under 'new' rules? ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!

To be honest I would have to go with the redo of testing in January2013 if you haven't passed both parts as that way there would be less hassle.
As it is dvla though they will most probably mess it up to an extent where there is a loop hole for a couple of weeks/months. ____________________ CB125>CG125>GN125>ER5>K100RS>R1100RS>K100RS

AFAICT, they're all independent: to sit Mod 2, you need a CBT, a theory pass and a Mod 1 pass all obtained within the last 2 years - the order doesn't matter.
The DfT's gone quiet on whether they're going to do away with or re-jig Mod 1. And we're still waiting on the 3rd Directive details, there's not been a squeak out of them in over a year.
I'm not sure whether this is ominous or encouraging. Mike Penning has his head screwed on right, and the changes to Mod 1 in May were pretty sensible. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
