Heres the question. I am doing my on road test next wed and I have been researching insurance. The cheapest is eBike-by a fair bit. I know some people have had bad experiences with them re sending licenses etc off to them. What I would like to do (in theory) is pass my test-come home and buy my insurance-go out for a ride. Is this is the case with eBike or do I have to wait and send them paperwork etc? If this is the case can anybody recommend an insurance company that can cover asap.
Sorry for the questions. Thanks for any help.

I've used Ebike and Ecar for temp policies that I use on stuff that I buy to sell. It is very easy but will cause you some issues if you don't have a physical licence or pass certificate.

When you take out the policy your cover will begin straight away but then they they will send you an email asking for a copy of your photocard / counterpart driving licence within 14 days I think. I find the easiest way is to take a picture and email it to them. You could email them to see if they accept a pass certificate.

I have never had any probs but my mate who is a bit of a tard didn't sent the copy to them and they threatened to cancel his insurance, so he had to do it on the double.

I am assuming that when they ask me for my license they will realise that because I would literally have just passed my test that it will only show my provisional A. Hopefully if I pass they will accept my pass certificate. Are they happy enough with photos of the certificates etc?

Don't know about the certificate but they give you an email address to send the pics to. I made sure the pics were close and good quality and I had no issues.

Drop them an email and see what they say.

I was about to ask if you could send them a picture of your license with the pass cert before the examiner took it, but it would still be green lol! Doh! Laughing

I found them to be fine if you actually read the T&Cs and are prepared to communicate by email.

Yes, they weigh in with the "You haven't sent us your docs, we're going to cancel your insurance" pretty sharpish, but they've probably found that customers just ignore anything short of that.

Scan / photograph your provisional license before your test then email them the scan of that plus one of your pass certificate.

They do seem to employ a special class of support mong, but use short clear words and kick off a complaint early doors if they give you a hint of hassle and you should be fine.

Slight update. I emailed eBike. They have emailed me a Driving License Mandate form which will allow them to contact the DVLA and search for your details. Post only as you have to sign it. Never heard of one before.
Heres the main content of the email:
" can confirm that you can obtain a quotation online and set it to start at any time you like.

Once you have passed your test you will need to send your Licence to the DVLA to update its status, therefore you will not have this document in your possession.

In order for us to confirm your Driving Licence on your policy, you will need to complete a Driving Licence Mandate Form in its replacement.

I have attached a copy of this document to this email for your completion.

Once you have filled in the questions and signed the document, please return it to the address below"
Just in case you are interested .

From a further email:
"You can choose the exact time and date for your policy to take affect. Therefore, once you have passed you test you can pay for the policy online and be covered with immediate effect, providing you set the correct time.

If you are purchasing an annual policy and have obtained a quote online, you can always call our Conversions Team on 0845 683 0745 to make a payment over the phone.

Please note that you will not need to send us the Mandate From until you have purchased a policy. "
