Winter tyres

Looking back a year there was this thread on winter tyres. Well between then and now Sava who are a pretty big European commercial tyre company in Slovenia and part of the Goodyear group have released the MC32 Winter tyre for scooters in various sizes.

The MC32 is a real winter tyre with a winter tread, winter compound and is ready to be studded.

So how long do people think before winter tyres are released in sport bike sizes?

Where I work we had a "winter tyre awareness" event where the local tyre fitters (MeriTyre) came to our site and put on a display all about how good they are blah blah. I walked in and the bloke walked up and asked if I needed any information. "Yes", says I, "are there any winter tyres for bikes". He was completely stumped. MeriTyre fit bike tyres and own the well-respected superbiketyres.com business.

He took my e-mail address and then a few days later said he'd looked into it but there aren't any and the advice was to use a sport-touring tyre, as they warm up faster.

I'd have thought the extra grip of a winter compound would be even more useful to a bike than a car.

If you notice on cars etc any snow/ice tyre is a lot narrower to increase the pressure on the surface.
So taking this to the same conclusion.
There are plenty of dual purpose tyre's avaiable. Such as Avon Distanzia, Pirelli Scorpion Trail etc.

You might be able to find something that will fit.

Although I think the biggest issue on a sports bike is the lean forward position and how this effects the control. Compared to a more upright sitting position on a scooter/std bike.
