Like with the 'what you listening to thread', and the reason I was looking for that other film (which has Will Smith and Usher in), what films will people watch purely because of how well they rate an actor/director?
My favourite actors(esses):
Will Smith
Nicholas Cage
Vin Deisel
Cameron Diaz
Chris Rock
Samuel L Jackson
Directors, Michael Bay did ok with transformers, and Mr spielberg but for me, Will Smith does as much production as acting so ties it in nicely.
Verrry cheeky edit, I was knackered and miss off (but didn't forget) SLJ. ____________________ Roger wrote: Women don't get damp for clingy puppies. Get some better happy pills, hit the gym & buy a medallion the size of a dinner plate. Job done

- Anthony Hopkins
- Jodie Foster
- Robert DeNiro
- Al Pacino
- Morgan Freeman
- Robin Williams
- Jim Carrey
- Mel Gibson
- Sigourney Weaver
- Clint Eastwood
- And another vote for Cameron Diaz - easy on the eye, plus a cheeky look, with a good sense of humour
as for behind the camera, probably the predictable collection of Steven Spielberg, James Cameron.... and maybe an old school thumbs up for Hal Needham
(I grew up in the 70's-80's, so Smokey & The Bandit, Hooper and Cannonball Run were big foundations for me becoming a film loving petrol head ) ____________________ 1st bike (Sept'06 - May'10) : 1991 GPZ500S / Current bike (since Nov 2009) : 2003 Suzuki Bandit 600N

I would have said Joss Whedon as a writer/director, but Dollhouse kind of queered that pitch. Sam Raimi (Evil Dead) usually delivers.
Which segues into Cate Blanchett being the only actress that would persuade me to watch something that I'd otherwise have no interest in. If you get a chance, try The Gift - it was directed by Raimi, and he actually manages to make Keanu Reeves look like a real actor! ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

I agree with most of the above to be honest. I do like Will Smith though, he was certainly good in Ali and I, Robot and Enemy of the State and I do quite like first Men in Black and Bad Boys films too (bad boys, bad boys, whatcha gonna do? ).
One of the directors missing so far is Ridley Scott; with the notable exceptions of GI Jane and A Good Year (an impossibly shit year, avoid at all costs) I don't think he's made a bad film. Alien, Blade Runner and Blackhawk Down are all brilliant and Gladiator and American Gangster aren't far off. ____________________ Triumph Daytona 675 track bike + girlfriend's Honda Hornet 600

No, no he wasn't. He most certainly wasn't. That film made me die a little inside (at least the 20 or so minutes of it which I actually watched were terrible, I couldn't take anymore after that and switched it off - this is very rare for me, I can only count a handful of films that I've wanted to watch and have turned off in disgust). | Actually, 'Six degrees of seperation' which he did was a little shocker for me, I never expected the guy to play a gay. I have a couple gay freinds (and lesbian), I'm not a homophobe but seeing him kiss a bloke made me shut my eyes, I just want to picture it.
He did 'The legend of bagger vance', which was a quiet movie (as in not publicised) but honestly, the guy is legend.
Kirsten Dunst, hmm yeah.
Cameron Diaz, she is full of awesomeness. I aint bothered how many don't like her, i wouldn't kick her out of bed and she is a good actress. Millions of people seem to love Jeniffer Aniston who I hate, and im sooooo fucking glad she didn't make the list but Cameron is a much better actor.
Keanu Reaves is a good actor, but has only done a few films and then, it's been unpopular dramatic stuff. Like with Christian Bale in The Machinist, it's not a good watch.
Tom Cruise, very good actor but stereotyped for action films that are predictable. I went to see Knight & Day with the ex (Starring Cruise & Diaz) while it was an ok film, it didn't quite tick all the boxes. Add to that his religious toff and well, 'nuff said.
Jim carey, unfunny clown.
Gerard Butler, is a highly underrated actor. "The ugly truth" was a man-flick I found funny. 300 was epic, and Law Abiding Citizen superb. ____________________ Roger wrote: Women don't get damp for clingy puppies. Jonny Depp afaik has only done Pirates of Carribean, The tourist (feat. Angeline Jolie) and Public Enemies that were watchable movies. In the former anyone could have played the part, he wasn't remotely as charismatic as cap'n Jack. I dont see the appeal he has with the women either.
Liam Neeson, I did think about him today while sorting out my downloads.. he does deserve more credit than he get's.
Tom Hanks.. for me he's a bit like eddie murphy; legendary actor as a job goes but a bit outdated.
One actor I missed of, is James Spader. He's brilliant, he co-starred with William Shatner in Boston Legal and, well, it's one of my favourite series' of all time. ____________________ Roger wrote: Women don't get damp for clingy puppies. I want you to imagine that you are sat in a small, uncomfortably warm airing cupboard and you've been there for two hours. You are perched in a small child's deckchair and there is a golf-ball sewn into the lining of the back of your jacket so you cannot lean back and get comfortable. To your left, Nicholas Soames MP is relentlessly and noisily eating pot noodles, slurping down the sauce like a pig eating rotten apples, being handed another one as soon as he's finished the one he's on. To your right Joe Pasquale is singing "I know a song that'll get on your nerves, get on your nerves, get on your nerves..." In front of you an ugly child is flicking tapioca into your face with a spoon. The whole room smells strongly of lavender. At the same time you are mentally wrestling with the minor guilt of having run over a small but cute furry animal (like a rabbit) earlier in the day and you know that in two further hours time, when you are finally released from this torment, you're going to have to walk home five miles in the rain.
That, my friend, is the closest I can get to describing the misery of being in a cinema, watching Titanic, at about the point where Rose and Jack are getting it on in the car.
Now tell me Dicaprio hasn't made a bad film. |
