My favourite Nirvana song is 'Negative Creep'.
Simple, Brutal.

First Nirvana album I bought, awesome stuff

I found a copy of Nevermind wedged behind a bookcase in the house I rented at Uni, listened to it loads then lost it when I moved out. I like to think it rolled back behind that bookcase to be found by another student.....

Personally, I never 'got' them.

I did get into an argument with a Nirvana fan a while ago, he told me that 'if it wasn't for Nirvana, punk would never have happened'.

Preferred earlier stuff.

They evolved from the punk ethic. Grohl drummed for Scream and hung out in that scene. You have to forgive the kids that weren't around for the first wave or the Hardcore era of the early 80s.

I was never a fan but I did recognise and respect the talent that was Kurt Cobain. I often wonder what greats he may have gone on to achieve had he not been murdered at such a tender age.

Being born the year Cobain died i missed the whole era.... I started listening to them last year because Nirvana inspired Breaking Benjamin, which is my favorite band.
Lithium has to be my favorite song. But i may be saying that because Breaking Benjamin did a cover...

Kobain's whole trip was that you didn't have to be good to be cool, and that's why I hated him.

When asked about theory he said 'I know a little but not enough to hurt my playing'... and thus spawned the crap we have nowadays.

It's just a good job he was more proficient with a gun than he was with a guitar, or he'd have missed! Mr. Green

Steady on NickD. Laughing

I guess you must dislike quite abit of contemporary music. Heard Barney from New Order or Lou Reed i could go on...Cobain played his instrument and sang with a passion.

He wasn't groundbreaking in my book. Was stupid... defo...in the fact he could've got off the rollercoaster..ditched the downers and explored what he could do with music.

Aw man.... don't start me off on New 'fucking' Order... I've wanted to kill them all since Peter Hook claimed 'Lemmy stole my bass sound' in the NME in the 80's! Mr. Green

You believed the NME...Case closed. Razz

You can get my drift tho. Take Charlie Watts for example...can you remember any one of his drum fills or drum intros? He is invisible..He's good and simple. The perfect drummer for the stones but forgettable.

Cobain used the double amp setup to give that wide wall of sound and mimicked his voice on solos. We can all hum his solos. His job is done.

Also very very clever in his use of feedback..reminds me of Neil Young/Frank Black when they let loose.

Terrible musicians have their role to play and technically perfect musicians will continue to plagiarise them.

Lol. Not so much the NME, but I can imagine Hook saying that!

I honestly don't think he was clever in anything, just appealed to the lowest common denominator at the time... He was the Michael McIntyre of rock!

They at least served their time playing the toilet circuits for years....Then got thrust into the limelight. Unlike McCuntire. <Bypassing the annoying web-link thing that has cropped-up.

at least they can play there instruments
not like the manufactured pop we have these days, most can't even sing and require auto tuning

This.
Cobain was never the best singer or musician, but he is much better than the crap we have now.

I think they were great. I'd sooner listen to In Utero above all the others now. Pennyroyal Tea is probably my favourite.

Nevermind can take it or leave it, i'm not very interested in what roads it paved etc, it isn't all that great to listen to. The best songs have all been played to death. A better version of teen spirit is on Wishkah.

I love the unplugged album, but it's lost its impact a bit now, as i've played it to death. Same goes for Wishkah, which is an awesome live collection, but I need to be pretty drunk to make it to the end.

'You know you're right' was a particularly awesome song, but I remembered being disappointed that such a long drawn out battle by the idiot Courtney Love (against the world), didn't yield something better, wish they would stop releasing stuff over and over again on new and pointless (and yet official) compilation albums. You know you're right was the only thing worth buying that 'best of' for.

Anything from "lost tapes" or any other crap angle, is very very ropey and hard to listen to. Only those trying to be pretentious twits would claim otherwise I reckon.
