Could be, as you were involved in an accident.
A few years ago one of my cars was hit by a road sweeper while I was at work, and the car was at home, it was fucking obvious what had happened due to the buffing of the paint and the damage. I phoned the insurance company and told them what had happened (as you are meant to ) but as I couldn't prove the road sweeping contractor had done it, I had to let it drop. I told the insurance company this, and thought no more of it.
When it came to renewal time, they asked me what I had done about the damage. i told them I'd paid to have it repaired myself, and they tried to load the premium because I had suffered a LOSS.
So I fucked them off, didn't mention it to my new firm and never heard anything more about it.
I think they make it up as they go along to be honest |

Can't see how it would affect you given you wouldn't have to tell your insurers since you aren't claiming from them. You're claiming on someone elses insurance? ____________________ My Flickr |

I had a blind bitch reverse over my bike when I wasn't on it, but still had to fight with the insurance company when they renewed without giving my no claims discount.

Indeed, they generally ask you if you (or any named driver) have had any claims, losses or accidents in the last X years regardless of blame. If you don't declare, then you're giving them a stick to beat you with. If you do declare... you're giving them a stick to beat you with. Even if you're not to blame, even if you made a full recovery, it's still (in their nasty suspicious heads) a risk factor. What if you're starting your career as a professional accident victim?
Sadly, insurance isn't fair, and there are so few actual underwriters that the concept of market competition keeping them in check is pretty risible. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Yes, it will be, it will go up.
Big_Ham is incorrect as Rogerborg pointed out, you have to declare every accident you've had regardless of whether it became a claim or not.
Also, if you fail to declare, they tend to just let you have the insurance nowadays as it's money in their pocket BUT as soon as you have an incident they will double check your accident record with other insurers and bam, you have misdeclared, no cover!
It is a shame insurance is this way but until someone steps in and regulates it all, that's how it will be. ____________________ "Four wheels move the body, two wheels move the soul."

So because someone hit your bike that makes you an increased risk?
The logic astounds me. ____________________ My Flickr |

I argued the toss and got them to reinstate it, on the basis that *I* didn't have an accident, and *I* didn't make a claim. Even if the other party is 100% at fault, admits liability and they pay up, it gives them a chance to buttrape you, and they jump at it. ____________________ Chances are quite high you are not in my Monkeysphere, and I don't care about you. simple answer is it could increase.
the reasons are simple and straightforward to insurance companies. people who have had one claim are statistically more likely to have another. Is this because they are more likely to claim? because they park in an area where damage is more likely? because they drive/ride in a manner more likely to make them be in an accident albeit someone elses fault (defensive driver or not?). The reasons vary but the stats back up the insurers decision, and in a statistics based business its the stats that matter. One claim increases the chance of a second. Next time the fault driver may be uninsured or untraceable.
Paulington, the industry IS regulated, although I would concede that too much emphasis is made on the sales side ensuring excesses etc are disclosed in a certain way rather than inurers pay out in a timely faction and more importantly a fair maner.
the problem in this country is we have allowed the product to become overcomplicated and the general public really dont understand it. It should be simplified and the public given LESS choice, how many new young drivers know they are liable for voluntary, compulsary AND young drivers xs in a fault claim.? ____________________ Fallen Angel "Nae sniffing my seat now!!!!! Someone ran into to back of me at a traffic light and I notified my insurers - no claim made as no damage and it turned out the vehicle/driver was uninsured. I was not penalised on renewal nor when looking at other quotes.
Someone did to my bike what happened to The Shaggy D.A's causing nearly £700 worth of damage - no claim made as driver never stopped and no witness...on a busy road...so had to pay out of my pocket to get it fixed (no choice as brand new bike) . No point notifying insurers as no claim could be made and bike not lost and no actual notifiable accident.
Some insurers will penalise you regardless but as Rogerborg said ANY claims, losses or accidents must be notified on renewal otherwise they can refuse to pay out. ____________________ Current ride - 2005 Suzuki GSX-R600 K4 - 2x 2014 Honda NC750s long term courtesy bikes - 2003 Fazer FZ6 written off as idiot reversed into me - 2009 YBR125 - still have from new |

you have heard of the MIB I assume? many policies now include the services of the mib as a "benefit",
I have had a payout of 5k from them in the past when a stolen car wrote mine off, no loss of ncb etc etc ____________________ Fallen Angel "Nae sniffing my seat now!!!!! "
