Sod all use as a painkiller IMHO, ice packs are far better.

Had some oramorph solution some years ago after a mountainbiking accident - It just resulted in me sleeping for 10-12 hours.
.. although I don't know if this was purely due to the medication, or the fact that I hadn't slept properly for the preceeding couple of days due to the pain of my injury

30mg IV?

Shut the fuck up.

Thats shit, I've been giving IV opiates for the past 10 years and never given such a large dose in one go.

I had what was described as a half dose by the nurse, when I burnt my face, I am petrified of needles so was shitting myself about that and was in the worse pain of my life I was shaking and talking utter bollocks my heart was going 1000000000bpm, the second I got it all the pain and anxiousness went away and my heart slowed right down Thumbs Up

Top stuff.

I also cant see a dry ski slope first aider having access to CDs either.

If it was a paramedic, why did she do the double check with a civvy ?

Oh, and she stopped because its mega controlled ? Surely she would have given you the dose she thought you needed rather than going:

10mg..... 20mg..... 30mg...... oooh better stop its a controlled drug...

watched a doctor drill through my leg, right through the bone just below my knee
and stick what looked like a knitting needle through the hole to put me in traction
when I snapped my Femur, and just laughed, but after 24 hrs I couldn't take any more morphine
told them to take the drip out or I'd rip it out, horrible feeling, like my skin was crawling and nausea

must be serious if you damage both your spine AND breastbone in the same landing, personally I would wonder why the first responder waited outside for you to be taken to them by a first aider using the slopes board, when the procedure is for the ambulance to supply the board and the expertise to put you on it.

Yeah, getting your top cut off gives you a crappy gown and a new pair of boots from the hospital stores everyime Confused as they keep boots just in case a winter sport fan is brought in with spinal injuries and is to be allowed to walk out again. Laughing

I gave 30mg IV to a 30kg labrador last Wednesday.

Shit was pretty cash to be honest. I'd just done a very invasive and traumatic piece of surgery on it and the dog clearly couldn't give a fuck, it was just pestering me for food. Barely even sedated.

The more pain, the fewer side-effects.

Warpeds description sounds pretty suspect though because all I have to do is fill in a line in a book when I dispense morphine so it can all be accounted for. Mind you, it's the only drug I have to totally hand-write a prescription for.

There are much more potent opiates though. I occasionally use one called etorphine. 200mcg IM will knock a 450kg horse off its feet within a minute or so. Before I even get the bottle out of its container, I have to draw up a dose of naloxone and hand the syringe to an assistant who I trust as being capable of getting it into me IV within 30 seconds of me hitting the floor if I happened to scratch myself with the needle or splash some in my eye.
