to be honest, i was under the impression that this was fairly common for a lot of brokers.
I was using Equity Red Star iirc, through a broker, and i got the email "We will auto-renew unless you tell us not to" - so i called them, and said i didnt want to - will you mail me the proof of no claims - "Oh, its not up to us, its up to your insurers to do that, after your policy is actually finished.
3 Weeks later, nothing from equity, so i called the broker again, and requested my proof of no claims again, turned up in the post two days later - from the broker.

Hang on, they need to send you a new certificate of insurance anyway - aren't they sending a summary of your details with that?
Actually, they don't need to, but a printed certificate - not an entry in the MID - is what's required by the RTA, so they'd darn well better be sending them. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

You've missed the point.
They aren't trying to cancel or remove your NCB.
What they are trying to do is make it more time-consuming for you to change insurers, in the hope that you will stay with them rather than have to do some work yourself to change. ____________________ Sod falling in love, I wanna fall in chocolate. |

I find Swinton quite good, for an insurer. I insured with them last year, and come renewal the price was higher than I'd been quoted as a new customer getting a quote. So I bought the new policy online. They wrote to me asking for proof of NCB. When I told them I was already a policyholder with them, they transferred my NCB without any other questions.
And I got cashback. |

Hi
Good find.
Reading that it would seem to exclude anything other than a printed and sent certificate. But it is also out of date (as any insurance must provide 3rd party cover throughout Europe), so bits might have changed and be on updated versions.
Fairly sure I have had printed certificates with blue decoration which also seems to go against item 1 (ie, blue border which I doubt would count as a monogram).
All the best
