Picked up a BR10, going to pop it in at lunch, went home set on reserve last night, no difference there. Starting to think it's something to do with the power valve, I cleaned the blade the same time as I did the carb as it had a bit of build up on. If this was sticking could that have been why it was spluttering in the low rev range then fine at the top end? |

Could be... but im not so sure. My PV was jammed open permanently and I never got any spluttering at all.
Did you put the PV back in the right way.. not upside down?
Also when you pop the BR10 in...let us know the colour of your spark plug when you remove it |

There are ways to jam it open... Unsure how mine was done, but I had top end.. not a fantastic mid range at all
Tapered edge down is correct. https://flexiweb.atspace.com/rs125/3.jpg |

Plug swapped, the BR9 plug was sooty dry black in colour, i'm going to strip the carb again tonight (hopefully), and empty the float that looks to have fuel inside |

Black would suggest its running a bit rich, maybe over oiling... but see how the BR10 does you |

I think i've narrowed it down to the carb floats, spoke to the chap who I purchased it off and he says no fluid should be in the float. So ordered a new set which arrived today so back off with the carb again tonight
Going to leave the BR10 in, see how it is once the carb is functioning normally |

New floats in and set and it was a lot better on the low end performance this morning. Didn't really get a chance to open it up due to the flipin wind. Checked the plug, was a little black again but I haven't been riding it to it's potential since noticing the faulty float. But it's definately back to how it was at low revs.
Will get it to the top end range tonight, see if the power is there!
Put the choke on this morning to hear "click" and yes either the cable has snapped or something in the lever.......I went from being quite proud of my self being a noob to bikes and sorting the carb to being gutted........least it's something for the weekend!
Cheers for all the advice Paddy |

and I thought it was sorted....
New plug - BR10
New Float set at 24mm
Stripped and cleaned the carb
Cleaned the PV blade
carb needle set on middle notch
But revs are bogging at 5-6k! up to that point and beyond seems to run fine. One thing I have noticed is that the PV blade isn't doing the self clean around 2k but it does feel like it is working 7/8k. Can the cable play be set wrong at the solenoid?
If I go through the gears into top gear giving it a bit of welly as soon as I start to ease off, the revs drop and struggle to get back up without down shifting. Is this just a case of RS's wanting to be revved? |
