Mediocre actors playing mediocre characters saying mediocre things while mediocre CGI beasties jerk around on screen. I don't get the feeling that anyone involved was enjoying themselves or particularly cared.

Probably because they realise that, like so many other US dramas, it will get axed after one or two series with no warning and no satisfactory conclusion.

I downloaded and skipped through it.
Is it another Lost, BSG etc a'like, where everyone's continually changing alliances and stabbing each other in the back? If so, will delete now; as that's the impression I got.

The last long story arc program I got to finish watching was Babylon 5. Scince then I have either lost programs due to canceling before a resolution has been found (Heroes et all) or channel swapping (Lost or that crime one).

Bullocks, bullocks I say, to long drawn out American programs. Give me short seasons of Primeval or Dr Who. May not be getting proper conclusions but at least its not as unreliable as American stuff.

I quite liked it compared to more recent series like Fallen Skies.

Didn't think it was too bad. Was quite surprised at how bad the CGI was though - I thought this was a Stephen Spielberg big budget series. The dinosaurs looked worse than they did in Jurassic Park, and that was 18 years ago Shocked

[Off topic]On the talk of special effects etc; the more I've watched the recent Dr Who's, the more I've realised they are actually really well done.

A lot of the 'horror' style ones would stand up pretty well to big films in a lot of areas.
Presume it does have a pretty big budget these days, but still nice to see the BBC can actually make something of decent quality.

Watch a bit of it but thought it was shit.

Only shows worth watching are Breaking bad and Son of Archany at the moment.

+1 Dr Who does seem to be very swish these days. Also, don't know if anyone watches Merlin, but the new series seems to have a much higher budget. New armour for everyone, a larger cast, etc. Maybe the BBC have realised that to compete with X-Factor, you don't have to make something that is equally as shit (Fame Academy anyone?). Instead, you can make something that is actually entertaining!

Isn't Merlin partly done by a 'mercan company? Either way, I suspect the success of game of thrones can't have hurt!

I know the latest Torchwood is, which explains the different format (again, worked quite well I thought, but not up to Doctor Who standards.) May be that Doctor Who is too, but not so sure on that.

Oh and while discussing armour - I was amused that in Terra Nova they were just using enduro armour. Sure, it's not uncommon and sure I might have pranced around playing 'future soldier' while wearing mine; but it does look a bit 'cheap'!

Doesn't seem like that so far but then I never saw Lost Laughing

On the special effects thing some times it's really bad and sometimes it's good. I have to say no one has been able to do Dinosaurs properly since Jurassic park which is still the best by far!

Will give it a go then.
To be fair, with BSG it was a few episodes in before it became clear there was no continuity in character behaviour.
While for SG:U it was unfortunately made clear right from the start.

Oh and on that, as far as a 'long story arc' goes - Stargate SG1 and Atlantis weren't bad. As with stuff like Babylon 5, some where more indivdual episodes, but there was an ongoing theme definitely in the later ones and Atlantis. Annoyed that it got continued with SG:U which was just as bad as BSG.

For me Prison Break is best series still, although one or two of the seasons weren't great

Series One was ok, don't really understand why they carried it on after they actually broke out though. At least change the name of the series....

For my money, Merlin is the best series on TV at the moment Embarassed

Both have it wrong, it is clearly breaking bad Cool

Half watched episode 1, didn't really like it, seemed very american if that makes any sense. Seemed it was trying to be clever, but failed...

Watched the first double episode and the next one now.

It's a bit too shiny for my liking; lots of bits that didn't quite gel with me. However, lots of not too bad bits too.
The third episode did seem to be rather lacking in plot or interesting action.

I don't like the way they have to throw a bit of 90210 teen drama in to so many sci-fi things these days; I can see that getting irksome.

Will keep an eye out for the next episode, but can see me losing interest over time.

Oh and that armour is still irking me. I think I actually have the same suit somewhere. When I found the milk jugs in Starbucks were the exact same ones on the Enterprise in TNG it felt like I was working in the future! But alas this just looks like they're being cheap Sad.

Oh and I thought the CGI was 'acceptable' at least for a series.

From the Wiki page for Terra Nova there was a BBC series linked, outcasts:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outcasts_%28TV_series%29

It's a similar concept, but this time a diaspora to different planets.
On the second episode and liking it so far.

Its gets really shit really fast IIRC. Kind of like that survivors thing that was on, half decent concept, lost its way around ep 4
