Well I was rudely woken by the posty this morning with a recorded delivery letter for me....

Its from Northumbria Police asking me to provide details of who was the rider (Section 172 blah blah) on 25th September on the A1 Western Bypass as they were guilty on an offence?? The posty said the guy round the corner with a bike got one aswel.

Fuck that, wasn't me like Middle Finger

Anyone else had one? It doesn't even say what the offence is ... I know the person who was riding was certainly not speeding.

Were they going through red lights on instruction from a marshal or police ossifer?
(to keep the group together)
I could imagine if so another section knows nothing of this and will merrily waste resources sending out automated fines.

Any chance you could post a copy of the letter?

Na mate there was no red lights involved, it was just the protest ride straight up the A1 to Morpeth. Obviously the ride would have been at 40mph or so for about 20miles but surely they would need proof of the speed to prosecute for going to slow if thats an actual offence?

Trouble is, I don't recall seeing any traffic lights on the route we did.

I've been worried about getting one myself since I may have been (I can't remember m'lord) waving to pedestrians on the overhead bridge at the time, it never occurred to me this could be dangerous driving?

Was it a NIP? I thought the actual offence had to be listed on a NIP.

Sounds like a request for information but this should be a request for a rider of a specific vehicle registration not just a request for a rider (although that could be the wording of the OP not the letter) and also why it states they were guilty of an offence as I'm quite sure the Police don't decide matters of guilt they just suspect or believe.

I'm intrigued as to why a neighbour also got one and have to wonder if the offence has not been disclosed yet the rider is guilty if this isn't a bit to Kafkaesque and whether MAG should be informed so it can be found out how wide spread these letters are.

MCN might possibly be of some use in finding out how widespread these letters are.

Hi, did you continue on up to Morpeth? As far as I knew it ended at the junction to turn off for the A19?

You should write back asking for a more specific time as several people were using the bike that day

That doesn't seem to have been signed by or on behalf of the Chief Constable, Is there another sheet that is?

Apparently after a quick look they don't need to tell you the offence as it is just a request for information although a refusal to grant the information could land you with 6 points and a fine offence code MS90.

Isn't the argument something like "Vague Locus"?

Ask them to narrow down the location and the time.

I'm looking at it and thinking the same thing.

The location appears to be vague, I would expect it to say which direction you were heading in, between which junctions or an OS grid reference or something but then I have no idea how long the Western bypass is. The time suggests you were there for 3 hours.

Looks like a fishing expedition to me so I would be wary.

What is a registered No. ?

Is there a time limit on the letter to reply in ?

Is the letter dated ?

The registered no. is just referring to the bike REG number shown on one of the blanked out areas.

There is no time limit for reply shown on the letter.

The letter is NOT dated.

All looks a bit suspect to me. Wish I knew which neighbour it was so I could have a chat. I'm wondering if they have sent these letters out to all the registered bikes in that area on the off chance some people will reply.

The western bypass is a long road with many junctions.

So a miss-spelling.

Now this is a bit strange as I thought they should state you had to reply within 28 days of being served.

Looks suspect to me as well which is why I suggest it's a fishing trip. Bit hard to say without knowing everything you did that day and what the Police suspect you did. Wouldn't surprise me if they are considering doing everyone on the run for obstruction of traffic.

REPLY THUS:

"That registration belongs to my motorcycle; I am the only person with permission to use it. I did use it on Sunday 25th September. I cannot tell you exactly where, I do not GPS snail-trail my rides. I do not even wear a watch."

This stands out epicly. Seems like they are trying to get you to incriminate yourself or someone without any proof.

Were you one of the twats who rode in the outside lane? If so, impeding the flow of traffic would be seen as an offence, and you would be caught bang to rights if prosecuted. I'm assuming the cops had a traffic camera or a car fitted with a camera.
