Hi guys, fairly new to all this. Have had my cbr600f3 for about a month now and I love it Mr. Green
I did notice at first that at lo revs the chain felt a bit loose. So tightened it up and it was better but still noticed at low revs pooteling round it feels like there is movement in the drive chain. So stripped it down and had a look. I took a video with my phone as I dont know too much about this kind of thing.. at the start of the vid i am spinnig the wheel and you can hear the sprocket spinning with a bit of clicking , is this normal? I then start the bike up put her in first and let the clutch out. Check out the chain!! Shocked Surely this is not normal is it?? Or is it doing that as there is no weight on the bike? As you can tell I dont know too much about this kind of thing so would really appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance

It happens. The 'bounce' is exaggerated when the suspension is extended and there isn't any load on the rear wheel. Your chain doesn't look in the best of conditions, it would be worth reading up on chain lubrication and how to check free play on the rear sprocket.

BTW the safety nazi in me feels the need to warn you that its not really safe to rev the bike up while it is held up in the way it shows in the video. Too much of a risk of one of the stands dropping away.

I've noticed it on several of my bikes. I 'think' that it's due to the chain not stretching equally through each link and some links sticking a little bit.

Motul dry lube is the best Wink

The reason the chain bounces like that is because when the bike is idling, the revs jump up and down a little.

Try it in a higher gear and don't let the clutch all the way out, to dampen this out and it won't do it Wink

Also, i get the same clicking on my F4 when spinning the wheel on the stand. From what I can tell, it's just the sprocket moving on the splines of the ouput shaft.

Yep. For some reason the front sprocket floats sideways on the CBR.

Your chain looks too tight to me. Lacks lubrication too.

The clicking noise you hear when turning the wheel is perfectly normal.

cheers for all the input, much appreciated. I posted on another forum too and someone told me i needed a new sprocket set and chain Confused . FWIW the bike had a new sproket set and chain for last MOT so has been on for less than 8 months and done under 2k miles!

It would be rattling a lot more than that. In fairness, the front sprocket looks badly hooked in the pic but I think that's just because it's blurred. Might be what he was basing it on.

Get a nice can of chain grease and keep it lubed up nicely. It's easy to wreck a chain in far less than 2k miles if you don't grease it well. Personally, I steer well clear of the chain wax, I only use chain grease.
