I just had my Bike fail its MOT, and one of the fails was my front wheel bearings being a keen novices I wanted a good look at the bearings.
I noticed to the front wheel didn't move freely.
So out come the tools, then front wheel off.
Well to my untrained eyes the bearings look normal both sides. Once off the bike the wheel moves without any resistance no noise and is there any tell tell signs im missing ? Just to be sure. Confused
But then left scratching my head to what it could be then only to notice my axle or spindal was slightly bent!
Now could of this been causing my problem?

Also on the way back from the MOT bay I gave it some back and noticed a wobble coming from the front only when I went over 40MPH.

Any advice would really help many thanks Karma Thumbs Up

Hi

Think I would need to know more about the noise the MOT tester mentioned, but a bent wheel spindle could cause odd effects.

Normally with knackered bearings you will have play in the wheel. Also with the wheel off if you stick your finger in the middle of the bearing and turn it you will feel some roughness.

All the best

Keith

Im guessing there should be some noise from a broken bearing.
I think when I put my finger inside it moved freely and quite smooth. But when the wheels is on the bike, the wheel does not want to spin round. But off the bike it does Confused

If the spindle looks bent then get another one...

I'd probably replace the bearings too in that case TBH, since if the wheel has been driving with a bent spindle the bearings will be subjected to loads at an angle they are not designed to withstand and will be much more likely to fail.

Hi

If the brake caliper(s) are off does it still not want to spin? Just wondering if it is the wheel itself, or the way the wheel lands up sittings compared to the caliper(s).

How bent is the spindle? It could easily try and twist the bearings in place.

All the best

Keith

When I get home tonight I will take the brake off and try and have a proper look at the wheel. Karma
