I have just been told that my bike is a right off and that the insurance company will be in touch to offer me a price for it but I've no idea of what to expect / accept or how much negotiating I'm expected to do and thought someone would be able to give me some advice.
It is a 2009 (09) Green ER6F which has covered 12200 miles. FSH with additional top box hugger and heated grips. Would anyone be able to give me an idea about what I should accept and the protocol whilst negotiating with insurers.

Look at similar bikes on places like autotrader and mcn.. expect to haggle.. they'll try and pay the smallest amount possible.

As a slight aside - are there any insurance companies / products that actually cover vehicles (bikes or cars) on a "new-for-old" basis so you don't have to go through this shit?

In the last couple of years I've had a few objects (phones, cameras, etc) replaced on insurance and in each case they've just paid for the new version, no questions asked and I've wondered why they can't do the same for cars or bikes.

Since insurance prices are basically just a mathematical / risk equation they should be able to offer a price option that covers them for the cost of replacing on a new-for-old basis, shouldn't they?

Paid about £3200 for a Black 2010 ER6F that had done around 11,500 miles.

A lovely thought, but unfortunately this is Britain and as I am currently finding out, everyone is out to screw each other, rape each others insurance, then whine when insurances gets to the gay level its at today. Thumbs Up

Cheers Pedro. Had hoped to get about 3K for it but looks like I'll need to haggle to get somewhere near that sort of value.

Was yours an old or new style model?
The new style had the digital dash.

I recently wrote off my 2011/11 ER6f, 4000 miles, no extras, got £4475, original offer was £4300.

Have a look on MCN and find some similar ones at dealers, they will offer you around this price.

Did you declare these when you took the policy out ?
If not don't expect them to be included in the payout.

Best bet is to go and retrieve these from the bike.

No, not declared them but have removed them anyway now so don't mind about them so much.

You can take out GAP insurance to cover the amount the insurers will pay you and the cost of a new bike/car the cost of the GAP insurance is reasonably cheap IMO (well it was for my gaylander II)
The GAP insurance is for new bikes only and has to be taken out within a certain amount of time from buying the bike ).
