How do these things work?
I see they are all things like H4 conversion etc etc...
But is it possible to wire one of these HID kits to a headlight which currently uses BA20D globe type bulbs?
The standard bulb in my bike is not a halogen or any of these H1,2,4 etc...
If so i could wire one of these HID conversion kits up... could somebody point me in the direction of what i would be looking for?

thank you

Zongshen Arizona 125

I presume this is the 'my bike' you want to upgrade lamp on?

Help us, help you here; say so in post; people dont like hunting.

Right; Rogerborg is your man here, and will tell you that your bike is a Lexmoto or whatever and the engine code, which factory in China it came out of and the name of the bloke that put it in its crate..... he is the chinese fake away expert...

He also HID'd his own bike in a box and will tell you the obscure bulb coding needed.

However; H4 conversion with alternative headlamp lense and possibly housing may still be worthwhile for standardisation & getting new bulbs easily in future.

Also question mark over power consumption; most H4's are 50/55w, which can be too much for chinese electrics; sucking more amps than genny makes; overloading wiring & making more heat than lamp housing can get rid of.

I also have issue, and caution 'bright-white' lighting upgrades. Seeing 'better' isn't just about how much light you chuck up the road; WHERE you chuck it is far more important, and cheap lenses are notoriousely bad.

All to do with 'contrast' and 'coverage'. Bright white bulb in poor lense/reflector can, uprated actually narrow effective field of ilumination, concentrating extra light into bright 'spot' in the middle; yes you can see whats in that spot more easily, but with greater contrast between that bright spot and the darker regions radiating out from it, even though they are brighter than with lower watt bulb, harder to see whats there against bright center.

And 'colour'.... tungsten bulb is very orange; for consicuity, it actually stands out better in daylight than bright white, that can actually be harder to see than NO lamp...

Meanwhile, the whiter or bluer light, of halogen or HID again simply increases contrast, not how much you can see.

Getting really effective lighting is not about brighter bulbs, but 'balence' brightness, coverage & colour, AND amps, and heat.

But yes; there is a direct fit Halogen/HID bulb for your bike, and Rog will be along shortly IO'm sure to furnish you details.

Sir, I deserve neither such praise nor such censure. Wink

I don't know anything about Zhongshen, except that they're based in Chongqing, where your beloved "Yamaha" YBR125 is made. Razz It's just packing the standard 156FMI lump, Lexmoto have put their name to it, and you'd have to ask humanbeing who crated it up. He knows everybody in China, honest.

Aaaaanyway. I didn't go HID on mine, I just stuck in a bulb that was sold as a 7500K blue-white "Xenon" BA20D 50/50W. You'll notice that's not a link, since I can't actually find anything with that claimed spec being sold at the moment (searching for it will lead back to similar threads here Doh!). I'd suggest that you just bag whatever comes up cheapest when searching for BA20D 50/50W. Yes, there's a concern about the electrics being able to take it, but my HN125-8 seems perfectly happy running a 50W bulb plus some LED spots and low power heated grips.

Stock:

50W "Xenon" (probably just halogen though)
https://3.bp.blogspot.com/__DYtEEjm5wE/SdPeFoQbyVI/AAAAAAAAACg/jF32MofLYcU/s320/bright_lights.jpg

Curiously, the filaments on the bulb that I bought were reversed from the stock one, i.e. high beam on the switch turned on low beam and vice versa. If you find this, it's just a matter of swapping the high and low beam connectors over.

I think i can help in this thread.
My h4 conversion thread:

https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=230935&highlight=

Should give you a rough idea of the differences in light.
I still havnt rode in the dark but if they are anything like my car ones, they will just need adjusting to point lower and plain sailing from there.
Apparently mine are designed to be standard bulb low beam, HID high beam for 'legal reasons'. But i want to test out HID low beam and naff bulb high beam so i switched the two live wires on the headlight loom.

wow, thanks for the responses... certainly alot of info...

Well Rog, Talking about these bulb upgrades... I've just ordered one of these from china.....
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/270769797734?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649#ht_3599wt_952
Apparently they are supposed to work wonders... though i am feeling a bit mixed emotions about them.....
The design is made differently to prevent the bulb melting the holder as you can see.... maybe this will work?

also the 50/50 version....
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Xenon-Lamp-50-50-BA20d-ATV-Quad-Scooter-Headlight-Bulb-/150605007734#ht_2420wt_952
which im still unsure of buying just incase the heat is still abit too much..

I put a 50/50 halogen bulb in, but 4 miles down the road i pulled over because it was stuck on full beam... when i pulled over to check i could see that the 50/50 bulb was actually melting the holder that the bulb sits in (as it's plastic) so that kinda freaked me!

That bulb you have put in your own bike rog, has made a nice difference as you can see. shame there's no link though!
Also you mention my Zongshen arizona is actually a YBR?
that's interesting to know Very Happy i thought it was CG based.

Also @ EasyDuz, i saw your thread yesterday and have to say it's impressive. However, your standard bulb were not BA20D were they? as you said they were H4 so that kit in particular wouldnt straight fit?

Ah, bad luck with the holder. My HN125 has been fine with a 50W bulb left always on. That 35W Xenon should be gentler on your plastics.

No, your Arizona isn't based on a YBR, I was just making the point that the "Yamaha" YBR is aka the "YBR125 Tianjian", essentially a rebadged JS125 built by Jianshe in Chongqing city, next door to Zhongshen. It's just a bit of gentle brand-trolling. Wink

ah right i see!

Well, once these 35w Xenon bulbs have arrived from Shanghai i will post some before and after pics to show the difference they make (if any)

Somebody once told me that putting a headlight visor on can help keep the light more on the road?
well.... i thought those visors were just to look nice, like the bates headlights... anyway i bought one for £4.75.... fitted it also, but it's raining heavy this evening so don't think i will be trying that yet!
