Hi, my mate gave me his Gilera after someone tried to nick it off him (Him and my rather large mate both landed on it in a heroic attempt to save it... After being beaten up) and it hasn't worked since

I've basically charged the battery and fixed all the electrical problems in doing so, and it will now actually start up, but it is constantly wanting to stall.

I just spent the last 15 minutes warming the bike up to and starting it up every few seconds as it stalls either straight away or about a minute after running, and gradually released the choke on it.

Once the choke tap was closed I tried to turn the throttle and it conked out, started it up again, same again and it kept repeating this and I decided to stop when the nutral light started to dim and the starter motor whinned and didn't start it any more (It will charge up enough to start it again when left for a few minutes though)

Which leads me to think that there's something wrong with the fuel mixture? I don't know if this is likely to be the case, could the battery be shot as well? But I can't see how this would affect the throttle, once it's started I thought the battery went to the side line so to speak...

I would buy a haynes manual but they never made one, and the manual I got with the bike says "Take to a Gilera service station" Which isn't that helpful.

Any ideas? Or is this something that you'd suggest taking to the garage for? I'd rather not because that eats into my £250 budget

The battery shouldnt affect the engine once it's running. What i would do is take the carb off and make sure it's not blocked and that the fuel lines arn't blocked as this would starve the engine of fuel.

Cheers, you've basically agreed with one of my mates I bumped into this morning.

It's been sat for a year as well, so he suggested drain the petrol tank as well and refill it, apparently their will be a nice pile of gunk in the bottom of it that will want to come out...

Cheers again
