You can get a B1H for £2.5k, thats a little younger and a lot, lot better.
Going straight onto a 600 sportsbike isn't a great idea IMO. Particularly as we are getting towards the time when the roads get wet, cold and icy. What exactly do you want your bike for? A weekend toy? Track days? Commuting? Touring? Posing? Tell us a bit more first! ____________________ Triumph Daytona 675 track bike + girlfriend's Honda Hornet 600

ZX6R was the first road bike to leave me 'cold' after riding one.
It is an excellent bike, BUT it is as far from newbie frendly as you can get. And it is that 'kind' of bike that is the biggest killer of DAS candidates in thier first two years after passing a test.
They are very,. very competant sports bikes, but ALL they deliver is speed, and no drama.
As an experienced and somewhat expert rider, it left me cold becouse it was completely undemanding to ride, and ride fast, and consequently completely unrewarding.
For a newbie; it delivers adrenaline rush in abundance; but like herione; after that initial rush, takes more and more speed to get the same buzz, and that bike will deliver the speed to keep giving the buzz... right up to the point you OD, were you find that its competance ends at a very abrupt edge with no warning, when you are going very, very fast.
For a newbie; get something softer, and less focused. A bike that gives more by doing less, and lets you experience more of what bikes feel like when they AREN'T so composed, and rather than letting you 'get away' with being an idiot, flattering your riding and making you feel like a riding god, right to the point it kills you, has some feed-back that tells you went you aren't being so clever, and 'scares' you in a different way, when you are going a lot slower, and there is a much bigger margin between it giving a little grumble and actually spitting you off.
Fazer; Bandit; something slightly sportier, an SV, maybe a VFR or even a CBR600F.... incrementally more 'sporty' but sporty street bike, not 'super-sport' bike.
You will get a lot more from it; and bikes like that have more all round capability, and let you explore other ways of having fun on a bike, other than just going quick down twisty roads and trying not to fall off. ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!

I'd have to suggest that you try a few bikes first too.
The CBR600RR was the first bike that I tried right after passing my DAS, and even after 15+ years driving experience and passing the DAS my first time, the 600RR was too much for me at the time...
Yes it was exciting to ride - but bordering on a scary amount of acceleration compared to almost any car I'd ever driven. I decided to go down the '500 route until I'd built up my experience, and for me that was the best route.

Then it's not the bike for you anyway. It might not be the hard edged hooligan's ZX6, but it's still a ZX6, and 90% of what they 'do' is just offer 'fast'.
If you dont WANT fast, then you will enjoy a bike like a Bandit or Fazer, that are still more than credibly 'quick' a lot more.
Meanwhile, £2K for an £1800 bike, is not a bargain, and sounds like its doing your mate more of a favour than he's doing you.
While buying a bike that's not 'your thing' just because by some-one elses standards values and aspirations it's a 'bargain' is rather perverse.
It would be like me buying a set of Carbon fibre Golf-Pro golf clubs, becouse a mate was trading up to titanium..... JUST becouse I knew that they were 'supposed' to be 'good'....
I dont play golf, and even if I fancied ruining a good walk in the country trying to loose a plastic ball in a rabbit hole, I know that a set of unforgiving 'pro' clubs tuned for precision play, wouldn't do me, a complete numpty that can barely hit a ball straight if I stand on a garden rake, would not be the best things for me to try learning with! ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!
