I'd like to learn, But dont want to smash f**k out of my 636 I also don't feel confident doing a trackday in the middle of october when theres a real good chance it might rain. ____________________ EMRA Roadstock #92 - Paperwork Permitted.

I dont understand why you need to go to a wheelie school when you can teach yourself...
Warning: Everything i've said in this post is at your own risk and i will in no way take responsibility for your actions. If you pull wheelies your risk of crashing is very very high untill you start to master rear brake and throttle control.
Fact of the matter is this, if your bike is a bit nippy then use power to get used to the sudden thrust, 1st gear shut off and then whack it back on. Dont try this if you have just got the bike out, cold tyres and sudden power = fucked bike spinning around on the floor.
Next up lets try a bit of clutch:
After you have gotten used to a bit of air gap between the wheel and floor it's now time to get you upto speed on how it will launch and the position you will mostly be in. At moderate speed simply "ping" your clutch, 2 fingers is enough, by ping i mean slip the clutch and give it a few more revs, don't i repeat, DO NOT FULL THROTTLE, you will either spin the wheel or flip the bike.
Once you've mastered that it's then time for 2nd and 3rd gears, These will take time to master but once you have them down you can start to get more and more comfy with the wheel up, body position and speed, remember, FOR FUCK SAKE COVER THE BACK BRAKE, If you feel like the bike is going to flip, apply rear brake and try not to snap the throttle shut or you will get sent over the front bars. I must stress the importance of the rear brake, it's very handy and needed, the back brake stabilizes the entire bike. Stunt riders use the rear brake to balance their bikes and your no different. I'm waiting for the forum trolls to say "back brake? fuck that what you need that for?" it's obvious they dont rely on getting near the balance point to keep speed and revs low thus a more controlled wheelie.
Now before you faggots start, i'm definatly no master and i'm only just getting close to the balance point myself on my CBR600F, I can almost clutch it up in 3rd too but i'm way off that yet. ____________________ Haz ER-5, innit! |

Lol. Ignore the hype, its easier than everyone makes out. Youll instinctively close the throttle and think "oh shit I nearly flipped", but in reality, it only went a few more degrees and was nowhere near where you thought.
Fuck lessons, go at your own pace and dont ask for tips ____________________ Blue_SV650S wrote: it was a sh1te wheelie, but it proves that he can get it up in 3rd and can do angles. Wheelying like Kneedown IMO is one of those things you can easily learn for yourself. Just need to go out and practice enough.
G wrote a decent guide on it a few years back. ____________________ My Flickr |

I laugh like fuck when I see people like OMGDONTDOTHISORYOUWILLDIE!!!!!
you can't learn to do it from the internet, and half the idiots who give the advice aren't that good at it anyway. ____________________ Blue_SV650S wrote: it was a sh1te wheelie, but it proves that he can get it up in 3rd and can do angles. I agree. When you are learning you think you are the bad boss man of wheelies, but in reality if you get someone to film you, you only travel about 10ft with 6inches gap between the wheel and the road.
Once you get used to the front end light feeling it's all good, suddenly one day I just didn't snap off the throttle and powered on, had got used to the feeling, and that is how I can now wheelie. Don't listen to people say, standing up is better, sitting is better, do xyz at this point. Your bike will come up in first and second on the power alone, clutching in second is more desirable though I hear. ____________________ Previous: GSF600, FZR600 x2, ZXR750, XT600 Tenere, CB125, CZ125, ETZ 250, ER5, CCM R30, DRZ400, RF600x4, RF900x2, GS500, VTR1000F, 640 SMC, CB250 NIGHTHAWK, GT550x3, GPX750 TE610, CB500, X11x2, SV650, ZING 125, TL1000R,CB250 Superdream, CBR1100XX |

blahdy blahdy blah, anyway. I read above ''ping'' the clutch out? no wonder your wheels are spinning up.
I slip the clutch rather than dump it and I can clutch up just as well in a torrential downpour. ____________________ Blue_SV650S wrote: it was a sh1te wheelie, but it proves that he can get it up in 3rd and can do angles. You must have good tyres, mine are shit and don't grip well from cold or wet so your comment only works within certain factors.
You dont ping the clutch you slip it like i said but when i first started out it was more of a motion of changing gear. I can get a lot of distance from my wheelies now and i'm more than comfy close to balance point through research and practice, I fail to see how the fuck you think someone can go out blind and just pull wheelies?
It's like saying "you learn how to service your bike through practice not what the internet says". |
Make a video, expert. Same applies to knobblies on my ktm in the wet, so therefore I must be wrong... ____________________ Blue_SV650S wrote: it was a sh1te wheelie, but it proves that he can get it up in 3rd and can do angles. I don't even know what you're talking about. I don't use the karma system to rate, and have not tried to provoke anyone. This isn't the first time you've got frumpy in a thread I've commented in either. Sort it out. ____________________ Blue_SV650S wrote: it was a sh1te wheelie, but it proves that he can get it up in 3rd and can do angles.
