Went ok, got to grips with the bike (YBR 125) spent 2 hours on the road with the instructor and then practiced things that were not so good back in the paddock at the training centre.

Going back for my second session next sunday and plan to use my CG125 as much as possible in the interim. Although the speedo is playing up so need to get that sorted asap.

Also started swotting up for the theory test, the apple app store is a wonderful thing Smile

Hi, If your doing your direct access, shouldn't the training school be training you on a bike of 46bhp (500cc +), otherwise you will only be eligible for your restricted licence when you take your test if your using a 125.
I take it you've got your CBT or other licence in order to ride your CG ?
Does your school start you out on a 125 then move you up to the bigger bikes ?

Yes, I have my CBT, the school ensures you have the basics down safely on a 125 before moving to the 500cc machines.

Sensible and safer I think.

Yeah, I was thinking they might do that, they cant very well take your word that you are a good and safe rider when you turn up.

How many lessons do you get on the bigger machines, is there a set number for a set price or do you keep going and paying per lesson ?

Did my DAS back in 2005, and the CBT and 1st full lesson was on the CG125... then 3 lessons and the test on the GS500 Thumbs Up

Aren't you meant to have passed your theory before you're allowed to start your test training (be it DAS or A2), or is that just particular to instructors? I know mine wouldn't start training before I had done mine.

Good luck with it all Smile

My first DAS lesson was supposed to be on a 125, my instructor said we'll do so MOD1 / carpark stuff on the 600 first and see how we get on...Never touched the 125, went straight out on the 600.

You have to have passed your theory 10 days before your MOD1 test. You can train without your theory.

Doesn't have to be 10 days before the mod 1 (for the theory), but it is 10 days between tests if you fail.

If you are doing an intensive course, say over a week, then tests, it would stop you doing the tests if you failed the theory. Makes sense to do the theory first in that case.

On my second DAS lesson there was a girl training with me who passed her theory 8 days previous, her MOD1 was booked 2 days after and she was having to check whether she could take her MOD1 bacause of the 10 day rule (10 working days)..Evidentally it was 10 clear days. Must have been a load of bo**ocks Very Happy

I have hunted the 'net looking for a 10 day theory rule. Please point me to a webby if you can find one.
I did however find that it can be 3 days between mod 1's if you fail.

Agreed on the "get the theory out of the way before DAS starts". It's bound to be a pisser if you fail your theory on day 1. It's a lot of money to flush down the bog...

Day 2 today:

I felt a lot more confident on the bike and performed much much better, something that the instructor also thought. Very Happy Plenty of good feedback today.

One more 125 lesson before moving onto the 500's.

Looking at booking theory tests etc, Mod 1 soon hopefully too.

You're going to love the 500, more weight (don't drop it!) but so much more power.
