I found out the hard way at the weekend that those air machines in petrol stations don't work on my bike because I can't get either side of the nozzle into the wheel at the right angle due to the brake discs.

So I', in the market for a good way to keep my tyres pressures correct. What do you guys use?

Bicycle-style floor pump? Electric compressor thing that plugs into a cigarette lighter socket? Something else?

Also, what pressure gauges are actually reliable?

Been using a foot pump and Halfords digital gauge for years with no problem.

Me too, does everything from bikes to the massive tyres on my Ford Explorer. Those cheap little pencil gauges are best for checking the pressure, only problem is I lose them like I lose biros.

I'm lucky enough to have a compressor so I bought a cheap airline gauge and promptly threw the gauge away and replaced it with a much more accurate one, it only goes upto 60PSI but thats all I need for the space-saver in the car Thumbs Up

Ive found my bike tyres loose more pressure the faster I go, must get stronger valve cores (or Triumph style valves).

I think a you'll find that on some bikes it's almost impossible to get the connector on the valve whatever pump you use. As joe posted, get a 90 degree adapter.

I thought that too for a while but then realised the valve is flexible enough to just bend it a bit so the nozzle aligns.

I just bend the end of the airline nozzle enough for it to fit.

Why do you want two......

Don't leave it on....

It has been known for these to rip valves off......

You can indeed spend money, but the valve is flexible enough to just bend it a bit so the nozzle aligns.

It's usually all a case of angles - get it all behind the brake disc and then get the angle from there.

Remember brake discs are dirty and very hot if you've just been riding! (I just leave my gloves on.)

A automatic-stop digital gauge is nice, but maybe not needed if you've just gone one reasonably new bike.
You can get jump starters that have a pump built in, but the gauges tend to be terrible. Useful to have, but again less so for a single reasonably new bike.

Michelin tyre compressor I had for Christmas a few years back. Plug it into the 12v adapter in the car and away to go.
