 |
|
Ok this might be a long story but explains the day, Question in red at the bottom would be good for an answer.
Here goes, had a cold morning today so could'nt get the bike started for over an hour. Managed get it start and start the journey.
Event 1
Going into a junction I turn stop at the junction indicating away, no problem. Go to turn out on a junction check mirrors first and there is a car coming down behind me (its a hill). So im indicating out and the woman driver comes down the right hand side of me and almost wipes me out as she turns into the road.
Event 2
Coming out of another junction there is a car broken down at the junction on the right.. im turning right here, go out onto the road as another silver car comes down overtakes it and almost wipes me out (I am doing dirt bike on the side to get around).
Event 3
Further on in the journey car broken down at the side of the road, nothing on the right hand side in immediate danger. There is a car and truck but they are further back. Go to overtake the car coming up the road turns into the junction meaning the truck overtakes whilst im riding down, the car that was broken down or hazzards now goes forward and almost wipes me out Causing me to get into a gap that was about 5 metres wide.
Event4
Coming down onto a roundabout turn right and there is a bus coming up to the roundabout, speeds onto it and almost wipes me out I slam my brakes down narrowly missing it.
Ok now i'm at uni shaken but feeling like I shouldn't ride back tonight gut feeling was right.
Event5
Turn up into a road and take the wrong turning, so turn around car enters the road with full beams on and blinds me as i'm approaching the junction to go back onto the road.
Go to the junction and then it happens the bike jumps forward straight into a silver car, slightly hits it jam brakes on as soon as i notice which is straight away. Swapped details nothing that I can see wrong.
Just had a phone call of her and apparently there is a scratch on the wheel rim and on the side. Stupid me didn't take a picture and feel suicidal thoughts at the moment only got £400 in the bank.
She wants to see if its any worse tomorrow gutted feeling that it will be
So how much is a scrape on the wheel trim, how much am I looking at and any advice on the others think I did the best I could but need reassurance
Only damage/problem with the bike is the wheel trim has gone to the right a bit, the handlebars are slanted when its in motion normal when straight. ____________________ CB125>CG125>GN125>ER5>K100RS>R1100RS>K100RS

I'm trying to figure out exactly where you hit her and with which part of your bike?
You said it jumped forwards into a silver car. I'm assuming you pulled out of the junction slightly and hit the side?
If so would it not be your tyre that hit her car?
I'm not aware of any rubber tyre that can put a scratch in a factory finish paint job, let alone a reinforced plastic wheel trim. (unless it was a Halfrauds cheapo set) ____________________ Check out our tackle shop on Facebook:

As for this

Don't be a lemon. Get back on the bloody bike
We have all been there at some point. Some more than others granted.
I had a massive off involving 80 mph, gpz 750 turbo and a monkjack deer when I was 18, proper fubar'd up. Broken wrist, ankle, ribs, shoulder, skin grafts etc.
I'm pretty fortunate to come from a biking family so before I was even out of hospital a cheapy cx500 custom found it's way into the garage, ready and waiting for me to get well enough to ride it.
Whilst I was too knackered to ride I was still fumbling about with bits I could do to it and as soon as I could stand up ok on one leg I was riding the thing up and down the street with my mate waiting for me to stop, holding my crutches
Get back on and stop doubting yourself. Take a bit more time and try and get out more for pleasure at night where it's not so busy so you can climatise to the dark. |
I'm tempted go by bus tomorrow encase the repairs are too much, I'd much rather keep the petrol in the tank for the moment just encase I need it will also be playing on my mind whilst riding. Although I wasn't off the bike (seriously I didn't budge on the bike when I hit her) not put off biking at all just being safety minded for the meanwhile until I know the full damage.
Nice to hear about the crutches bet that was funny to watch they may knock us down but we will always get back on them. Even If I lost both legs I would get back on, or arms I would just create myself some mechanic arms. ____________________ CB125>CG125>GN125>ER5>K100RS>R1100RS>K100RS

You have swapped insurance details; if she wants to get arsey; let her! Just tell her that THIS is why you have insurance and if she feels she has a valid claim against you, to contact your insurance and make one.
If you wish, you notify YOUR insurance co that some-one may attempt to make a claim, and they may ask you to fill out an accident report; or they may wait and see IF she actually follows protocol and goes through the propper channels. She may not deem it worth the hassle; or she may think twice if she's trying it on, if she is dealing with pro's not a newbie feeling guilty.
Worst; you loose the no claims discount you haven't earned yet, and have next years insurance loaded for whatever she claims for.
Lets be realistic here; powder coating an alloy is £20... removing and reffiting a tyre a tenner.... buffing a scratch?
And a £250 'claim' against you wont make much of a dent on your premium.... if its under £500, they generally don't even count it.
So... you are aliuve and well, you have money in the bank, and a bike, with a bit more 'wear and tear' on it than it did.
And a few more lessons learned along the way.
Get them forks straightened in the yokes, and get on with that training course. ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!

You need one of these.

But Joking aside, good that you're okay. However I doubt your nerves were doing you any favours after all the 'events' so you were probably on edge and not observing properly.
Either way, chalk it down etc. Man U- etc. Tits ga- etc.
Be glad you're okay. Let the insurance sort out the damage that spontaneously appeared on her car.

Hmm nice for you say that but I'm all out nice and picy
Until I'm on the road then the rage kicks in once someone crosses me

I know you're joking about that car but I actually wanted one of them when I was younger they looked really cool
Like I said above (on this post) think the rage has caused them incidents, I was on one road after another and didn't stop to think anything over at all so everything built on top of each other.
It's all a learning curve ...

Nice to hear that it shouldn't affect me too much if she goes claiming to insurance, depending on how much it turns out to be I'll update this with the price she wants get opinions on whether to put it to insurance or pay her out.
I will sort the bike out when I get back in tomorrow decide in morning what i'm going to do with the bike If I can repair it in time that is. Managed get hold of the local bike trainer (where I had my cbt) and lessons are £45 for two hours. Which is not bad imo however want to sort this mishap first and not waste cash on useless lessons when I can sort out problems for the moment like junctions and starting the engine in a hurry (which I'll send you a message about soon). ____________________ CB125>CG125>GN125>ER5>K100RS>R1100RS>K100RS

For £400 I would pay her.
But seriously next time, take a photograph.
One of the reasons I have my K800i Sony Ericsson is that it has a camera and a flash. If not get a cheap digital camera, keep it charged and keep it in your ruck sack.
In future if anything happens, take photographs, lots of photographs, not just the damage, but the road, the conditions etc.
Make sure you take a picture of the car registration plate.
You have to be sooo careful.
Tbh, the lady you hit will have just gone in to the first garage she could find or her local dealer. I'm sure she could get it fixed cheaper, but that's not really her concern, she could also request a hire car, whilst her car is in the body shop.
Remember, her car was fine now it's not.
-------
On the other hand, when someone hit my car, they paid me the money for a new bumper + £30 as I said I would fit it myself. But then i'm more practical, than the average women/bloke on the commute to work.
If you can't afford to fix her car, then you will have to go via the insurance.
On a subject of not being seen, when the weather is like this I wear a big hi-viz long sleeve coat that goes over my leathers and I have the brightest Philips bulbs that you can buy. It does make a difference. ____________________ I've a twin and a 4. |
