.... Hein Gerike Kenton.
I popped in there today after college and was asking around for help and info on helmets. I'm doing an A level technology project based on the safety features of a helment and would eventually lead in a product development project. So i went into the store and had my usual chat with the guys, and just out of curiousity, i asked them if they had any used or scratched or even cracked visors which they can give to me if it they were not required. At that point i felt like paying them 5 quid for the visor (i'm doing an optics development on visors and peripheral vision basically, and how glasses can interfere with your overall view, thus influencing safety and awareness levels). The guys went to the back while i was trying on some paddock jackets and you man goes to me... "Sorry mate, we can't find any dodgy or used visors as such, but a customer left his lid behind ( i have to refrain from using the word "HELMET" as it has many implications if i say it TOO/LOUD in college) as it was far to big for him, but you do get a visor with it!" . I was quite surprised, but when i was going to pay for it, i thought around 20 quid would be a bargain for a used helmet i don't intend to wear, but then he said to me, "take it... it's using up space in the storeroom and nobody needs it. We not even retailers for Lazer, so you might as well have it" Having said that, i told him to sell it on ebay, but he weren't bothered, so now i'm left with a LAZER "Replica" helmet (gold ACU ) for free to use as a test rig for my project! How cool is that. And once i've finished with it, i can give it to my dad whose an XL - or let my friends use it... they should wedge a cloth or a towel in so that the lid would fit lol - not really a good idea having read that story about the little kid and the oversized lid. Anyway, just a shout for the boys down at kenton and their outstanding service!
Evidently, i'm also trying to find out more specifically, what plastics are used in the manufacture of visors... POLYCARBONATE just doesn't cut it for me, chemical names and formulae might be handy, so if anybody can find out, i will be gratefully indebted. Thanks for your help ____________________ The Tot 2019 Z1000SX - 2007 R1

That's damn nice of 'em. The project sounds interesting too, speaking as a considerably blind person who can't ride (or not walk into walls) without glasses. |

When I've been in Hein Gericke they've been really helpful, and the service Karen had when she needed to return her leathers was outstanding. ____________________ BCF: Be yourself, just don't be an arse. |

Hein Gericke were quite helpful when the stiching went on my Alpinestars gloves and they replaced them with no discussion or anything about it. |

Yeh, i agree with you there Ste... When they approach you, you kinda feel uneasy or guilty for leaving without buying anything, but since i've known the HG guys for around about 6 months now, i guess they're all kool about it. It's more of an environment where you come off to stop and have a chat... Wish they were a bikers pub too... Kenton HG that is, cos i can guarantee a bunch of 17yr old+ bikers will come to them. At the same time i don't visit too often as i don't want to be known as "that bloody prick that keeps on coming in ", but it's a nice atmosphere there... but i guess i know the guys there quite well... ____________________ The Tot 2019 Z1000SX - 2007 R1

Like McJam said, we were well impressed with Hein Gericke. They were incredibly helpful in getting me sorted with my leathers, rather than the half hearted attempts you sometimes get from busy shop assistants. When I went back to get them swapped, again they were great.
That's so cool that they donated you a lid.

Sounds like an interesting project. It reminds me of the time I tried to use polarised tinted specs under my lid, and had to stop and put my normals specs on, as one eye was seeing things in green and the other in purple, because the light being bent through the visor and then polarised! Really fooks with your head, I'm not doing that again. ____________________ My Old CBR400RR | Bike Oil FAQ | Petrol FAQ |

The staff at hein gericke were fantastic. I bought my gloves and back protector from them, and they gave me a bottle of glove waterproofer free .
When I bought my lid, i asked them to fit a visor insert.
When i took the helmet back, cos the insert hadn't been fitted properly, they gave me another one free and got a different guy to fit it .

Heine Gericke. My mum got a £20 pair of gloves free from them (Sheffield). She'd already spent £500, so he just chucked them in the bag. |

Heine Gericke in Chester couldn't grasp the concept of UK waste sizes being in INCHES - I argued till I was blue in the face those jeans would not fit - I need 44" not 40 - "No, that's european UK sizes, they're different!" - tried em on just to prove a point and hey ho 4 inches too small - Even had the cheek to say they're not like normal jeans you have to jump up and down to get into them !! - my god , if i'd done that i'd be singing soprano and never get them off again. This was 3 member of staff saying the same thing. Went to a shop in Newcastle - very helpfull - found six different jeans in my size, loads more choice, even made me a coffee. . If you're smaller than me I'm sure you'd have no problems unless you had a 32" waste and they gave you 28" jeans.. NUMPTIES the lot of em
