Anyone know which is one the preferred Breakdown recovery companies to go for.

Many thanks in advance.

Autoaid.

it is breakdown insurance, if you crash or breakdown, phone them/your favourite recovery company up, get home pay them and claim it back off of autoaid.

I claimed last year two days into the policy following a spill, they organised the recovery guys and paid me back within a week.

I rate them very highly, £38 for me and spouse in any vehicle. The selling point for me is that they recover you after accidents, AA/RAC I hear are not so good in that respect and will always send a van even if you KNOW you need recovery, so you then need to wait again for the flatbed.

Autoaid - just get whatever you want (repair/recovery) and claim it back.

Do I take out insurance with them and also with RAC (for example) then I actually call Autoaid instead of RAC if I break down and they deal with it ?

I assume they will only help if you actually have taken our breakdown cover with someone like RAC ?!

Sorry or am I being thick !?

I think what Donny meant, is:

- Take out policy with AutoAid.
- Break down/crash
- Call RAC or other company, who, because you aren't a policyholder with them, will consider you to be a chargeable job.
- You then pay RAC or whoever for collecting you/returning you home/taking you wherever you were going.
- Then claim the money back from AutoAid with proof, i.e. Receipt or Invoice.

Watching this thread with interest, I have no breakdown cover whatsoever and really need to look into it. I've done not far off 20k this year and luck's definitely been on my side.

Cheers,

Steve.

Lol not quite.

If you breakdown, you call autoaid and tell them where you are and what you want.

They send someone (local recovery firm, could be anyone) out to you.

You pay the recovery firm and they fix your bike.

You send the receipt and claim the money you paid back off of autoaid.

They could send just about any company if you let them sort it - or you can ring whoever you like and get them to get you, pay them and claim the money back later. Easiest is just to let them choose someone for you unless you know of a firm you would like to use.

Yup, or AutoAid will call out a recovery vehicle for you - it's in their interests that you use an independent to keep their costs down.

Essentially that's what Green Flag do, except they charge you a lot more for the same service.

One benefit is that you're in control of the situation because you make the initial payment, and so can negotiate with the truck monkey for the service that you really need. With AA/RAC, you get the service that the van man is prepared to give, and no more.

AutoAid covers you in any vehicle, and that explicitly includes motorcycles [UPDATE - with no age limit]. I'll definitely be going with them when my Green Flag expires.

What sort of charges are likely for repair/recovery? Any examples from experience? It's all well being able to claim it back but you have to have the money in the first place.

Greenflag 'personal' cover is useful.
Should cover you in any normal vehicle you're in; driver or passenger/pillion I believe. They will take you home.
They won't mess about sending a van when you need a flat bed like the AA/RAC. They won't make you wait six hours for a pre-arranged collection like the AA/RAC.
They probably won't be quite as good at fixing your vehicle as the AA/RAC however.

If ADAC cover bikes (not sure if it does - all my documentation is in German!) then their policies are definitely worth considering. A bit of hassle to get, but Europe wide any vehicle cover for less than the cost of a lot of UK only cover.

If you're only ever going to want to use it on the one bike - then a specific this-bike-only policy makes sense. But make sure you get one that will recover you to your house and one that will recover after an accident.

I like the AutoAid idea, but how much are the costs :S
Ive been with the AA for the past 2-3 years - £19 a month for home recovery/breakdown ect.
Used them last month with my bike - there within 10 mins, he droped the bike back to the garage then took me back to the holiday camp.

After reading lots of good reviews i went with autoaid, not had to use them tho.
Costs don't really matter if you have a credit card as you get a cheque through the post in a few days so you can be reimbursed in around 10 days.

Had good experiences with the AA before, managed to get the full personal cover for me and the Mrs for £65 annually. Have a look at the cashback sites like Quidco and topcashback, there are deals on there that will help to bring the cost down.

Shocked

That's £684..! I'd expect some incredibly decent service for that. Could have bought another bike!

Another vote for Autoaid from me - I've been with them a couple of years.

Funnily enough I just joined AutoAid today on the advice of a friend, and it has cost me just £38 for the year. Thumbs Up

ADAC do cover bikes. I've had them out in Hungry, Belgium and he UK. The only problem is that in the UK they use the AA who have been rubbish for me.

Autoaid are awesome for me.

I use my phone internet to find a local outfit, get them to come out and get a VAT receipt, pay with credit card, and then use that to claim it back.

Got fucked around by a local firm once that i called for a recovery, said they were coming and didn't arrive, twice, so told them to sack off, and called another firm instead Very Happy

Autoaid pay up promptly.

They do sound good if you have a credit card or a spare few hundred pounds knocking around. Local firms are likely to get there much quicker and actually listen to what you need.

You're a bit stuck though, if you don't have any spare cash or are out without your CC

Many companies will accept credit card details given over the phone. So call your mum or something if stuck Laughing

Well, then don't choose Auto Aid. Belabouring the bleedin' obvious, isn't it? Confused

Surprised Surprised Surprised Surprised

£19 a month!!! That is 6 times more expensive than autoaid!!!

For that I'd want the mechanic to be a hot 20yr old female that offered free "extras".

It would help if you said which company that is.

Auto Aid don't have a limit. The vehicle - a saloon car, hatchback, estate car, car derived van or motorcycle.
