 |
|
Hi everyone, have my mod 2 tomorrow morning. I just want to confirm a couple of things as I've seen conflicting information via youtube videos and what I've been taught. I know what I've been taught is probably correct but it doesn't hurt to make sure right!?
Well...If I am changing lane for example the correct procedure should be...
1. Mirror
2. Signal
3. Life Saver
?
Also, say you are coming up to a T-Junction, you are turning right. Mirror, Signal, Life Saver, move to right hand position of lane, life saver then make the turn if clear?
Thanks
Lee

Changing lanes you shouldnt be signalling unless you have some where to go, Observation Signal Manoeuvre
So its worth checking the blind spot as thats where your going, it looks better than signalling and then having to cancel it because at the very last youve seen a problem,
So your checking mirrors to make sure that nothing is coming up, lifesaver to see where your going is clear, signal so people know and then its probably worth another lifesaver before you change, its about knowing whats around you,
Similarly you need good observation at the t junction before as your changing your position with in a lane, whats to say that another bike isnt beside you. in some cases i was told that if your keeping a good eye in your mirrors all the time you can get rid of some looks but personally this morning on my mod two i put them in every time i was moving my position, similarly check your mirrors before accelerating and brakes
I may be wrong, but i passed. |

There could be a nutter (possibly on 2 wheels) trying to barge past, especially if you've been sitting there for a while, and double especially if you're sporting L plates.
It shouldn't happen, but it does. That's why they're called life savers.
OP, it sounds like you have it right. You're more likely to be penalised for making too few rear observations than too many, so if in doubt, take multiple rear obs per manoeuvre during your test. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

wow ok. When approaching a junction i just do:
mirrors
signal
lifesaver
get into correct road position
turn into new road
cancel indicator, check mirrors again
So i'd fail doing it that way? ____________________ To shreds you say? Tss tss tss |

You'd have to ask an examiner. If you're slowing down for a give way or stopping briefly, then you should be fine, but if you come to a stop, do at least a mirror check before moving off or sooner or later you'll get caught out by a mental.
This isn't advice for your test, it's advice for staying in one piece on the road. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Nice one!
The followup stuff will largely depend on who you get to do it. You may find that RoSPA or IAM work out cheaper. Either way, it'll be a good excuse to get out and about.
Got a bigger bike lined up yet? ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
