i turn 17 in may next year
i wana learn gears but i dont know weather to get an old geared 50 and ride tht around for a while or buy a bigger bike now and my dad said hed pillon me up to a carpark every soo offerten at night time and i could learn there.
then i have the issue of what bike to get
i like all the big 2 strokes
espesally the RS250 and the bigger RDs.
but everyone is telling me to get a jap 400.
i want a bike that will be good to learn on but then will go like a rocket when u give it some hehe.
any ideas??

ok bearing in mind it takes about 20 mins to learn gears. y don't you just buy a geared 400 (zxr400 or summit) then book a lesson with an instructor and he'll teach you the proper way and all the good habits then you can adapt it to suit how you ride.

Half hour to learn and get moving, a few months to master changing down and using engine braking etc.

i just taught myself to change down gears, i've not had the bike long, but engine braking is something i need to work on, as wlel as looking at the traffic around me (i've given up for the day cos a scary man in a silver golf had a go at me for randomly braking)

Why don't you go for a 125 2-stroke? Ideal way to learn how to change gears and you'll be able to ride it on the roads when you turn 17.
