Coming on to a mini roundabout, my right of way. Got to painted circle in middle, indicating, headlights on. Lady in Skoda decided she didn't want to stop despite me turning in front of her already on the roundabout, came straight over the roundabout without slowing down and punted me off. Ambulance was directly behind her and they helped me pick the bike up after the woman had reversed off it. Whilst this was happening (wheeling the bike off the road) our backs were turned and the woman simply drove off.

No one got the plate as it was assumed she had stopped. Only thing the police got was a description of the car, her and a part of her numberplate that snapped off with a bit of the reg. Island's a small place though, expect there aren't that many p reg green skoda estates with lady owners here so the police assure me that with an APB out and a VOD check it'll only be a matter of time before they find her.

Rough estimate £1200 of damage to the Triple, an over keen insurance assessor might find more. Crushed Arrow 3-1, rad guard, fly screen, gouges in swing arm where exhaust bent in on it, damaged front mudguard, twisted forks in yolks, damaged front wheel... Rode it home though Laughing Surprised there wasn't more damage to be honest.

I'm ok, bars clocked me in the hip, her bumper caught my leg a bit and I think I landed heavy on my wrist so a bit sore in a few places, head clocked the floor a bit as my visor will attest too. Mostly in shock at how someone could do something A)So stupid in the first place and B)So callous as to drive off. Police assured me that when she is found, the book will be well and truely thrown.

What a bitch!

Tenner says she was deficient in either licence or insurance, otherwise the risk of driving off is mental. I hope she gets some serious come-uppance.

GWS, lrm and Stripple.

Hi

Ouch. Glad you are OK

From the damage you have described I would expect the insurance repair bill to be far higher.

All the best

Keith

This is what I am reckoning too, either that or the ignorance of the fairly basic road rule that you give way to the right at a roundabout might lead me to believe she is also ignorant of the severity of driving off when you have just mullered someone on a bike and have no idea what condition they are in.

Kind of lucky there were a few people around, I'm wondering had it been late at night and deserted, would she have even stopped at all or just driven round the tangled pile of bike and rider?

That sucks Sad

Roughly where on the Island did it happen?

At work we supply a fair bit of 2nd hand car parts to the island and know a lot of the garages on there so will keep an eye out for requests for Skoda front bumpers (assuming it also got crunched?)

Assuming she will have to replace at least the no plate pretty quickly so it maybe worth trying to find out which garages are legally allowed to create plates and having a word?

Only a matter of time before the hit n runner is found

Glad you are (relatively) OK

Regards
Rob

Thanks for the kind words guys.

Robocog, police have already informed the majority of local garages/motorfactors etc. that owners of any green Skoda estates requesting new number plates or repairs should be reported just in case. Happens quite often apparently. They also inform the ferries of such accidents with a description of the car should they try to leave the Island.

Usually they don't such lengths but with a drive off it becomes a far more serious matter.

^^ It's actually:
'Mister Han, suddenly I'd like to leave your Island'
'It is not possible'
'Bullshit Mister Han-man. Man, you come right out of a comic book'

I'm something of an Enter the Dragon anorak, check out my Williams Shuffle tribute video.

Thumbs Up

Hi there.

Long time reader etc. but this seems like an ideal time to join up as I'm on the island, too.

I drive around most days for work, so I'll keep an eye out.

Where did it happen mate?

Shape/size of broken bit of plate?

Cheers,

Dave.

My punt is that she was probably over the drink drive limit and decided to scarper before getting breathalysed - tomorrow she may well turn herself in with some lame excuse (once sobered up)

Is hit and run considering a bigger offensive than being over the limit though?

Possibly, but in the heat of the moment she might've just fled before thinking it through.

I wouldn't have thought so, drink driving is a ban straight away. Not sure what failing to stop is, don't think its a ban though.

Hopefully they'll catch her! Keep us updated Smile.

How on Earth could she do that? That doesn't sound right to me.

Shush, there are grown-ups talking.

I would put money on her being Janey Foreigner though.

It's great to see coppers taking this seriously for once, we hear so many incidents of them (essentially) saying "Well, what do you want us to do about it? Investigate?"

first off id like to say im glad your ok.

this post has my blood boiling for all she know she could have just killed someone and drove off.

what i would do if it had happened to me in the same scenario as you i.e small island, i would get on bike car if possible and go round every place who does plates as she will need this and say to them there is x amount wether its 1 2 3 hundred quid if you give me the name and address which legaly they need to make plates of the woman if she comes in then just sit and wait and hopefully someone will spot her.

so that leaves the option of her been spotted by a police car as it would flag up as a marker on her car or that shes only got half a plate or one of the garages will ring you will good news.

either way mate when you find her you should start by telling her your the brother of the man she killed and the police are on there way.

I'd phone the local papers, they like stories like that to pad out the adverts, picture of you next to wrecked bike would infuriate a lot of people along with some "what if it had been a mother & toddler like the one killed at WestCliff?" type commentary."

In other words - spread the word as much as possible.

Police found her Thumbs Up need to get my statement in will do, this afternoon. Presently waiting on PC Plodd to contact me to discuss what to do next.

I informed insurance of the accident and they are sending an assessor to get an estimate for the damage on the bike. As Keith said, now that I look at it in the cold light of day it's probably on the funky side of 2k damage. A front rim, exhaust system and swingarm will probably make that alone let alone the bodywork that needs to be replaced and the labour to do it all.

Cheers for all the well wishes and I agree, its nice to see the police doing something about it. They're probably starved for action down here since the last big counterfeiting operation got turned over. Laughing
