I passed the other day and I notice a few here have done similar lately but I figure this might be a bit of fun. Well done everyone, I know how happy you all are, right Thumbs Up

Can you beat my hill start? Laughing I was gonna post it on Google maps but it kinda doesn't show to well in 2D.
If you want to post your google map image though, please feel free, I'd love to see what you had to contend with.

I did my test at Erith and as I came up Basildon Rd, (Abbey Wood SE London) I said to myself that
"if he makes me turn left I will be on Bostall Hill and I bet he makes me do a Hill Start here". He frekin did! Laughing

It's a 1/10 gradient but Hill starts are the one thing I always found very easy (luckily)

I never rolled back, even 1 cm.

What sort of hill did you get?

I ask because some test centers don't have hills and they kinda do Hill Starts on a road hump Wink

WTF do they do in Holland then Wink

Hill starts are a easy. Try doing it halfway up a wet, rutted chalk hill Wink

Cheers Gents,

See, that's my point.

The test, when using different places is just NOT consistent.

MAKES IT A MOCKERY IMFO!

What if a guy rolls back cos he's having a brain fart but is every bit as good as the guy that doesn't have a hill in his area?

I think the test layout still requires a bit of work Laughing

My test area was quite hilly though, but mainly through the country side - have to say that, even though I was being examined, it was one of the best rides I've had weather/scenery wise Cool Even though I made some daft mistakes Embarassed

How many times were you asked to pull over and set off again? I thought the standard was meant to be like 2 or 3 times, but I was asked about 5-6 times (though no minors for it), I thought that was rather odd.

Funny enough Jordan,

At the time I thought it was a bit many but it was 3 times I think, not counting the hill start.

I had the behind the car thing (fair enough) and another "pull over here" for I don't have a clue reason Laughing
I thought at the time I had already done this and I thought I had already done the Hill bit but obviously not!

I dunno mate, no consistency in testing makes it all a bit of a joke and a money making thing more than a 'proving you are capable type thing'

If you get my drift?

Interesting Thinking

But then again, like the theory test is: If you know exactly what's going to happen on your test you can just rehearse it until you do everything correctly but still be a rubbish rider.

I guess the inconsistency is a kind of way of making sure that you can't "learn the test" you have to meet a standard.

But I would go as far to say that it's easier to pass a test in a village/country than it is in a city or something. Thankfully the bike test went outside of the city into the countryside (mostly) and my car test will be in a town (because by god do I hate driving Rolling Eyes )

Thanks buddy Smile Only planning on getting the license because no doubt I'll need it in the future sometime, then it's purely saving for a bigger bike Very Happy

Know what bike you're getting yet? Smile

I don't remember doing a hill start either, the only time I can think of is when we done an angled start...That was possibly on a slight incline.

There are no hills where i live so the examiner said a wheelie would suffice.

Milton Hill in Weston-Super-Mare, but that was pre mod 1+2 days.
Had practised hill-starts on Paragon Road. Everything else seemed easier after that Smile

I was told they may pull you over more because they suspect your going down the gears quick enough. It could be that but on my mod 2 he got me to stop like 5-6 times as well ! 1 hill start included Wink

It may have looked like that because when stopping I selected neutral, so I guess it could have looked like I was still changing down gears once stopped/about to stop. But I made it obvious I'd selected neutral when it came time to pull away again, so it's all good Very Happy
