Most important protective clothing (after your helmet)?

Would never ride without my gloves on, as you automatically put them out when you fall and if you knacker you fingers/thumbs it makes doing a lot of everyday things very difficult.

Agreed that it depends on previous experience. I'd say jacket, because when I came off I landed on my side and seemed to be sliding along for long while. My shoulder protector did a great job and I'd have been a mess of gravel rash too if I wasn't wearing it. Oddly my jeans ('I'll buy my bike trousers when I have a bit more cash...') didn't suffer any damage at all. Thinking about it though, my gloves were a bit of a mess too, so I think they probably helped a lot too.

Definitely won't be going anywhere without the lot on now. Got away with not wearing leather trousers once and might not be so lucky next time.
