In the market for a new helmet. KBC keep coming up and just wondering what they are like. They have some nice designs, just concerned about build quality, noise and such compared to bigger brands that I am interested in such as AGV, HJC and Shark.

Also very interested in the AGV K4. Anyone care to shine some light as I am aware they are quite a popular helmet. Good/bad things please Smile

Also, out of these two, which is better looking? I can't decide. Obviously both with clear visor (while the cold is here anyway!)

On a side note, how much are helmets reduced by (on average) after Christmas? Cos I can borrow a helmet/use my current mx lid until January if it is considerably cheaper. Is it worth hanging on?

Thanks guys Thumbs Up

Same reason for me with HJC. Nothing else seems to fit properly, or go far enough below my chin. OP, you need to try a few on for size. Don't rely solely on mail order etc, you need to see how they fit.

I have a year old AGV K4 Stealth, the first lid I've ever had where the vents actually make a difference. Far quieter than my AGV K3 and much prefer the kind of chin strap it has. Can't fault it fr the price I paid (£160 or so). I'd get it in black myself, that way the lid goes with any change of clothing you have.

Yeah thats the idea, to try on different helmets in my price range and see if they fit. Then come home and look at different colour schemes and then buy it off the net if its cheaper.

Although people are asking for presents for me so gift vouchers for somewhere that sells the helmet I like may be a good idea too.

Do like those two though but they may not fit at all! Laughing

Problem is, nowhere near me sells the first one. May ring up HG and George White and see if they can get it in Thinking

Both K4 so if one fits, so will the other, right? Just paint schemes are the difference for the name?

Cheers guys Thumbs Up

George White are having a sale right now, went there yesterday, and after 5 hours trying stuff on, got a marushin 779 for £40, jacket £20 and gloves £29. I didn't know they were having a sale before I went, it's just the nearest bike store of that size (1.5 hours away)

First bike arrives next weekend so glad to get the discounted gear!

Went Hein Gericke and J&S today and tried some helmets on.

The two I liked was the HJC FG-15 Vol-lez:

https://www.oziol-motos.com/photo/photo_accueil/HJC%20fg15%20vol%20lez.JPG

And the AGV K4:

https://www.bikebits4you.com/images/K4-TORQUE-NERO-GUNMETAL.jpg

The agv wasn't actually that design as, as you have seen, I'm not gonna buy it anyway.

So I tried on large and extra large. Now large was too small on the agv but xl was okay.

Large on the HJC felt okay but the xl was really comfy, actually enjoyed wearing it. But maybe thats cos it was too big.

Now with the HJC, it felt a lot better and comfier, even the L but with the AGV in XL, it just felt a bit boxy and solid. It looks a lot better but I am thinking with helmets that I should get function over fashion.

The HJC was quite tight though and I was nearly biting my cheeks but that will give, and there is a chin curtain and nose piece (both removable). But that will give as my lid now did. Felt the same when I bought it and was gonna take it back, now it feels like its almost a size too big!

The agv, however, just feels uncomfortable. It digs into my forehead a big and the sides of my head feel pressed in. But it looks better and I may get used to it/bed in.

I'm gonna ring up and ask if they can get any other designs in in the HJC as I love the feel but I don't really like the pattern but the others aren't great. But on the internet, they are all about £170. They are selling them for £120.

That would be cheaper and it feels better but I don't really like the look of it. Whereas the agv may get better and I love the look and confident of the quality.

So what do you think?

Other colours in the HJC:

Personally, after my experience with HJC I wouldn't have another one. The sunglass mechanism broke after 2 months, the visor latch is a bit dodgy, the lining is looking a bit rough, the paint is chipped off in a lot of places and above all its bloody noisy! The wind noise is ridiculous for a helmet that cost £160.

I wont be buying another HJC any time soon, for £160 its not what I expected at all.

This one doesn't have a sun visor and there is a lock on the visor if it works for high speed stuff. Or do you just mean its stiff?

SEND IT BACK Razz

And liners go bad after time I think and paint chipping is part and parcel of a helmet. Especially as this one is matte Laughing

Thats that all covered Wink

Noise won't bother me too much as I'm used to a mx lid and it has a hefty chin curtain anyway. Plus I won't be doing much motorway work for at least another year and a bit. By that time, I'll probably be looking at getting another lid that has function and fashion Mr. Green

And would love a k4 and as you said, they are good lids. Just worried that it doesn't feel right Sad

No, its gone slack. Like, the ratchet is barely a ratchet anymore.

They wont take it back. "Sorry we dont take back used helmets except for warranty claims and this doesn't count because its average wear and tear" and no amount of complaining would persuade them otherwise. I just gave up in the end.

The liner started going bad at 9 months old. Not good.

I guess im just used to Arai and their brilliant quality and service. Ill certainly be sticking with them next time.

Bit of a shitter then.

Can imagine that visor, just lift it up and it flops back down again Laughing

What do you consider as bad? As my airohs was tight in the beginning now is quite loose. I'm aware washing it can sort that but I use my lid every day and when I used to use it for motocross, it took a good week to dry out properly.

Well, it used to be nice and tight. It fitted well. When it started to get loose I washed it as per the instructions and it was OK, not brilliant but ok. Move on 2 months and its slacker then ever. I wash it again, no improvement. I can pretty much roll the helmet around on my head.

I've got an FG-15 as my main helmet and a Caberg v2 407 as my spare.

The FG has a far better padded lining than the Caberg, a lot more paddeder (that is now a word), and when I first got it I thought it was too tight. I did know it would mould to my head and it did. The day of my mod 2, as I went outside to start, I got a very dry mouth so popped a bit of bubblegum in there. Unfortunately my squashed in cheeks were in the way of my chewing action and I did my entire mod 2 drinking blood from my bleeding inner cheeks. Great helmet though.

I'd happily buy another FG-15, or HJC for that matter, as every make will have helmets out there that something will fail on before it should causing the owner to be, rightly, pissed off. It's how a company deals with the complaint that interests me as if they handle it poorly then that reason would always put me off buying their wares.

TL;DR

FG-15 a nice helmet imo.

Never had an HJC helmet but agree that some of them can feel really cheap and other models feel really well put together...and it doesn't seem to be price related.

I got one of these at the Bike show for £150 and it is brilliant! Very quiet.

Got £115 quid so far for my birthday so may get one sooner than later Smile good considering I normally get like 30 Laughing
