Failed my MOD 1 today - stupid stupid me put a foot down in the U-turn - not enough clutch control.

What's most annoying is that I had it pipped on Friday, but unfortunately wasn't good enough (in the rain mind!) today.

Ah well - live and learn! Rest of the ride was fine - no riding faults which is nice...

Don't worry about it! You haven't failed until you decide not to re take it. At least you can see what you did wrong, and know what to work on. If the rest of it is fine you've got no worries, have a practice with u turns if you can. For me it was the fig8, but I did about 40 at the end of the final practice day with my instructor, and nailed it. And try to chillax when it comes to Mod1 pass day!

Now get out there and get it passed!

Sorry to hear that mate.
Nothing we can say makes you feel any better I guess. At least, I know it wouldn't have if I failed.

Saying that though mate, I have to recommend practicing in a smaller space than the Mod 1 officially uses.

Honestly, I couldn't judge from youtube how big the area was for the U-Turn, figure 8's etc so I estimated in the local car parks and when I actually got to the Mod 1 the space was pretty big Laughing

Hard lines mate, get it next time.

Good luck Thumbs Up

Unlucky.

When I did my mod 1 I was only worried about the slow manoeuvres and putting my foot down. It didn't help that the mod 1 test centre in Oxford is on a cambered carpark with a drain channel running through it. Before I went on my instructor said to use a little more revs during the u turn than I had been using during practice to combat the camber.

You haven't failed, you just haven't passed yet. You know you can do it from your practicing, just be practicing during your retake Wink

You'll ace it next time - you've seen how easy it is. Busy throttle, cover the back brake, control the speed with the clutch, and look where you want to go.

Once you've got your full license, it'll be 'foot down' everytime Wink

Bummer, but you'll get it next time and if not try, try again. Took me four attempts due to not getting a grip of the speed tests. But important thing is not to give up!

Thanks guys Cool

Not too bothered - well, I am but you know what I mean - it's only £15 after all. If I'm not ready, I'm not ready - that's what tests are for!

Yep - the whole test centre is on a camber, but that's not a valid excuse - I just wasn't concentrating or whatever. Will do it next time, and if not, the time after that etc!

The speed tests were fine - in fact everything else was fine - including the emergency stop (or 'controlled stop'!) in the rain on a slippy car park - thats the most annoying bit about it - if I'd locked a wheel or something it'd have felt like a justified 'fail'!

Barely seemed worth the almost 2 hours travelling time to get there and the test be only 10 minutes though - an hour of freezing 70mph dual carriageway in the pissing rain at 8am - what fun! The instructor was cushty on his big BMW tourer with the heated grips, heated this, heated that and big fairings, I was following along behind on the ER-5 trying not to get blown off!

Being blown around on an ER5 was half the fun heading to my mod 1. It was a very windy, drizzly, day and doing 70+ on some dual carriage ways to Oxford, fighting the wind, was good fun.

Also it was worth the saddle time getting there and ack as it will be for when you pass.
