Insurance for convicted drivers/riders

I need to get my bike insured in the next couple weeks.
A 1995 GSXR 750-which should be very reasonable for me as I'm over 30 years old.

The problem is I have driving convictions, not your usual SP30 or two, 6 seperate convictions.
Although I have convictions I haven't had any accidents for years.

Does anybody now of any insurance companies that would be worth me phoning to get a qoute.
I have had a £240 quote as cheapest from the first comparison site I tried, but I think with convictions I will end up paying alot more.

I am going to start calling brokers (etc.) in the next couple days, if anyone has any good suggestions I will give them a go.

My plan is just to spend as long as I need on the phone and call as many a possible, to try and get a reasonable quote.

Has anyone got any convictions and if so how much did it effect you renewal price/initial claim price.

Are the convictions under 5 years old? Have you been banned? Is it for a car or a bike?

Chances are you are going to be looking at a minimal cover / high excess specialist broker/insurer in the Lloyds market such as Adrian Flux.

I know you dont have to declare accidents on a car when getting a motorcycle insurance policy...

Id assume its the same for convictions?
(correct me if i am wrong)

Insurers consider bikes and cars to be totally different experiences, with diffferent rules..

Are you inebriated? One license tots up points from any category, you don't have a different licence for each and every category.

And, unless it specifically asks for 'motorcycle' accidents, you ***should*** declare them.

Usually insurance companies will ask you to declare ANY accidents, whether or not they resulted in a claim within the last five years and ANY convictions current or pending against you within the last five years.

That means you have to declare them all, not just the ones that occurred on a motorcycle.

Also, comparison websites have ALL the convictions possible on them anyway, so why not go to a comparison website and put in your convictions then try and get a quote rather than doing it without as that doesn't matter at all.

Also, as above, if the convictions were from over five years ago, you do not have to declare them to insurance unless you are asked to.

Whenever I put convictions in, it just says it won't give me a quote online. Maybe I should try some differant sites.

Convictions under 5 years, I have been banned. The insurance is for a bike.

Finallly managed to get a price on a comparison site.

£603.30 third party only on a GSXR-750 1995, 34 years old with six convictions (including three bans) and an at fault accident in the last five years.
I thought it might be a bit higher than that considering my less than glorious driving history.
I will make a few calls and see if anyone will beat it.

Mmm. I'd sure that was inadvertent, however I'll just note that if you're going to tell them any porkies at all, that you might as well go the whole hog and list yourself as clean and claim free.

Well considering he came across as a genuinely decent guy at the BCF BBQ... I'd say he's learnt Laughing

Wasn't it you who went faster through a speed camera because you couldn't see and was being blown about? If not I apologise..

Lots of genuinely decent guys get the red mist on when in control of a motor vehicle. Three bans? Maybe better saving it for the race track.

I probably deserve a ban the way I've ridden every now and then... Been caught doing over a ton a few times.. Luckily, I think I've learnt.. Laughing I'd hope Chris has also.

Yes that was a typo, after a few beers. I have had 1 fualt accident which was declared to them. Good spot though.

I have a drink driving conviction, breath alcohol level of 42, when I was pulled over one morning at a police checkpoint checking document etc.

When the copper took my D.O.B he noticed this and asked what I did the day before. I told him I had been out so he took a breath test.
It really did surprised me that I was over the limit.
This really was a lesson learnt and I have spoken to several of my friends who say
" I would never drink and drive"
Yet some of them don't think twice about going out a getting drink then driving the next day. I personally would never risk this again.

My final conviction which resulted in a ban was driving while disqualified.
Before 2007 I had 7 years on the road without a single point for anything.
Then in a run of bad luck and even worse jugement, I lost my licence for over two years and had to retake my test.

Have I learnt my lesson, yes I think so.

Thing is I think most people (but not all) at some time have done the things I've done,but were probably fortunate in that they didn't get caught.

My biggest piece of advice to those in this situation is to always get legal advice, with the conviction for dangerous driving I just pled guilty without seeking legal advice.

When I got into trouble again I sought legal advice and the solicitor spoke to me about the previous case. He said there is no way I should have got a DD conviction for simply speeding on a motorbike and if I hadn't pleaded guilty and sought legal advice I would of been convicted of a lesser offence. Anyway you live and learn.

im like your self have a few convictions 5 to be exact 3 dw disqual and 2 no insurance i phoned about 30 companies in n.ireland and nobody would take me on i asked on here just like you and someone suggested ebike to me and hold and behold they insured me i was well chuffed you should give them a go they are totally online you never have to deal with representatives and you can have up to 4 bikes on one policy plus you can change bikes as many times as you like look at my sig iv had all them since dec last year they just post you out a new policy everytime you change

Yep was me, although I didnt get anything in the post, out of film or it wasnt super high..or maybe someone else set it off! but Id say thats completely differrent to 3 bans and riding EDIT with a bit of beer in the blood steam EDIT O_o Glad he's learnt though.

EDIT that was someone else who couldn't 'see' when blinded by a light and decided to speed up. I sped up because I lost control at slow speed whilst being blown across the road and was about to go into a lane and hit the kerb.
