So I heard you can get tuning kits to tune the carb thingies yourself?
Anyone know where or what they're actually called or how much they are? Is it difficult to do? Am I likely to screw the whole bike up?

Yes.. Thingies. This is how little I know about the whole subject. But I want to learn and it needs doing.

The guy says it needs carb tuning. This is in relation to the cylinders, right? Timing and all that.

It's four cylinder.

...

Help?

xD

Are you talking about yor VF500? Not a bike I'd like to be pulling the carbs off too often for 'tuning'.

Anyway, what you need is a wideband datalogger if you intend to tune it on the road. You also need to clean, service and set your carbs, and service your engine & fit a new air filter to establish a working baseline. There's no point spending a few hundred quid on datalogging gear if your carb setting are all out of whack, jets are partially blocked and float levels all different.

I was pretty much expecting a "Not on a VF500."

I think I've pretty much come to the conclusion that it would be much better to just take it to the garrage if I can get ahold of him. He quoted me £60 and just one day last time.

£60 for a full carb setup? Not very inspiring, should be a LOT more IMO.

Really? He's a pretty sound and it would be just tuning it up because it's running far too rich and I can't seem to adjust that out on just the screw.

What sort of price do you think it should be?
