Hi was wondering if anyone could help me.
I have a r6 model 2002 the one with the carb.
I fitted front and back led indicators instead of the halogen ones.
They are all wired up right and i brought a new relay from my local garage. But for some reason the turn signal light has stopped working and when i am signaling i get a bleed through to the other side not as bright as the other but u can defiantly see it in the dark.
Any help would be much appreciated or anyone who had the same problem could get in touch
cheers

I'm guessing by "turn signal light" you mean the little light bulb on the dash? If so, first thing to do is to remove that bulb (or just disconnect the whole dash if that is easier). See if the indicators work properly, if they do you have a bit of re-wiring to do.

yes the relay is for leds. OK will try that out tomorrow and report back got a different relay from the garage said it worked fine with my indicators on the bench with a warning light put them on my bike and its even worse than the last it flashes but dull still get bleed through so going to go change it back for the other one at least that ones bright .

Ok, if the guy has had it working on the bench, then it is almost certainly the bike's wiring that is causing it to go daft. Without seeing the wiring diagram, the problem is almost certainly that the repeater bulb on the dash has no earth. if you trace back the two wires that connect to the dash bulb, one connects to the left hand indicators and the other connects to the right hand indicators.

When the left indicators flash, that little bulb earths through the right hand indicator bulbs, and when the right indicators flash it earths through the left hand indicator bulbs. Odd as that is it works because of the difference in resistance of the bulbs in the circuit. You've replaced the bulbs with low resistance LEDs so that doesn't work any more.

If you have an unused third connection on the flasher you have, it'll be specifically for running the dash bulb, the easiest thing to do is to re-wire the dash bulb to use that. If it's only got two wires, then you are going to have to muck around with more diodes (minimum of two off the top of my head) to get it to work.

hi mate i got your email from my post years ago. the answers is i dont know.sorry. i never got over this problem.i tried all sorts of relays and that didnt fix anything.
i did take the clocks apart and you cant change any bulbs in there too easy as there all soldered onto the board not the swapable type...

Didn't realise i would have to put relay and resistors in any help would be appreciated cheers

So, as above, do you have an extra wire or connector on either of the flasher units you have?

See if you can get a three wire flasher, save the trouble below:

Go to Maplins, ask the man for 2 diodes suitable for 12V automotive use - you should walk out with some of the bigger / more expensive ones.

Use google to identify which end of your diodes is which, the electrical symbol looks a bit like this, I've labelled the two wires A and B:

A ----->------- B

You'll need to be cutting and joining a lot of wires so you need decent crimps/crimp tool, or soldering stuff and know how to use it.

Find a circuit diagram for your bike. Trace back the two wires from the dash bulb and make sure it's wired like I describe - i.e. one wire to the left indicators and the other to the right, no earth. Otherwise you will start blowing fuses. Note the 2 wire colours. I have no idea what they are so I'll call them green and red.

Cut both of those wires somewhere convenient, and strip all the ends. You should have 4 ends, two going to the bulb and two going to the wiring loom: green(loom) red(loom) green(bulb) red(bulb)

connect green(bulb) to earth
connect red(bulb) to BOTH of your new diodes B wires: three wires go to this joint.
connect green(loom) to one of the diode's A wire.
connect red(loom) to the other diode's A wire.

Should work!
