Well technically I didn't drop the bike - stuck it on the sidestand as I do every morning at the petrol station (Tesco one), but this time it seems to roll forward after a few seconds and falls into the side of the fuel pumps, damging the metal casing of the pumps.

Snapped of one of my mirors and cosmetic damage to parts of the fairing. Don't think there is much else wrong as I rode it 60miles after that to get to work.

Left my contact details with the workers there.

Any idea if they will hound me for the bill to repair the pump casing, should I be contacting my insurance company, or just sit and wait to see if anything comes of it? Never really been in the situation before where I have damaged property with my bike!

Cheers

When I put my bike on the side stand, I always give it a kick to make sure it isn't going anywhere. Also, turn the bars towards the side stand, it will shift all the weight to that side. Smile

No need to contact your insurance company I don't think...

Sorry to hear about the bike, these things happen unfortunately.

Thumbs Up

Curious as to why you even said anything... I would have just kept shut. Neutral

Leave your bike in 1st and put your stand down... it wont roll anywhere.

Didn't have much choice...was in plain view of the Petrol Station window with the 2 workers peering out the window as they do every morning at me. Thankfully the guy came out to help lift the bike back up.
Although I never once took my helmet off so no one actually has seen my face Wink

It'll all be on the forecourt CCTV anyway, including your number plate and description, bear that in mind if you attempt to blame them.

As for what to do, nothing. Hope they don't try and claim on your insurance but if they do, suck it up and chalk it down to experience. Your fault and you won't do it again, feel free to make it difficult for them though, I hate Tesco.

I'd be quite surprised if they did attempt to claim from you tbh.

Not all of us have rear grab rails, but whenever the bike is on the stand I give the rear grab rail a tug backwards to make sure the stand is secure. I'm forever paranoid that it's going to go forward and tip Shocked

Is these one of these filling stations that wants you to get off the bike and put it on the stand so that you don't drop it? Confused

Indeed it was....ironic eh

BTW - It was an RF600, just filled up with fuel so was a bit "heavy". I was glad of the help to lift it up. Due to the way it fell there was hardly any room to get in about to lift. Thankfully no one else was in fuelling at that time, so not to many people about to snigger at the dropping bike. Cagers love that kind of thing I'm sure, or some of them at least!

Then there's your defence / grounds for action against them.

Also, it must have been on a slope, there was an uncleaned diesel spill, plus the till monkey was shaking a bike shaped voodoo doll.
