PostPosted: 21:01 - 02 Feb 2002    Post subject: Which year NSR to get? Reply with quote

Hey people.

I am nearly 17 and want an NSR for my first bike. I was planning on getting a new one but £3000 then some stupid amount for the insurance works out a wee bit too expensive. Therefore I need a used one.

Which year is the best for an NSR? I'm not too bothered when the fastest ones were built, but the most reliable. I dont one too old though (I dont like the shape of the old ones)

Cheers,
The Doddmaster

Bloody hell, that's a lot of money for the insurance. Have you tried ringing around different insurers? The average for a 17 year old on a brand new NSR is around £900 in the UK and a staggering £1500 in Ireland.

As for bike years, every bike made after 1993 is mechanically identical.

Insurance was aroudn 1500 if you lived in ireland a while ago, but the insurance companies (or "company" - hibernian) moved the group from 4 to 7, on the nsr and rs, so in the dublin area, insurance is almost as expensive as the bike itself..... i shit you not!

Peronally i'm an old fart at nearly 23, and with a home address outside of the dublin area so mine was 850 last summer.... it won't be much more for me at 23, but no one could possibly afford an nsr unless they're 25 in dublin.

The only bikes left to buy are the likes of TDR's and older TZR/FZR and cbr250's, or an NS-1.

Due to that ridiculous insurance price hike, you can say goodbye to the NSR 125 in Ireland. What was once the most popular starter bike for young guys in Dublin has become way too expensive and out of range for the young buyers! Bikeshops have noticed big sales decreases in the bike since the insurance comps hiked up the price. Your best bet is now the NS-1 or RS50 if you want a cheap sports bike! :o
What I dont get is how the TDR 125 is in the same group as most mopeds and 50cc bikes?? It does 100+ and looks good! You guys in Britain dont know how easy you have it when it comes to insurance!!

I don't know where you have got your quotes for insurance from, but I am 18 and I ride an NSR125RK (1991), and my insurance is £412 with Bennets... Try getting a quote from www.bennets.co.uk

Seeing as lately we've had people dredging up threads from the deepest darkest depths of the servers hard drive to add nothing meaningful at all, i thought i'd have a go!

Is this BCF's oldest thread?
It's nearly 10 years old and i still recognise most of the participants!

Dredging up old threads makes baby jesus cry... (and gets you punished by the Karma system).

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

ive had a few nsr's
non of the ns versions didnt like em tubed frame and that
the 90s gold alcast jc20 was a mean little fecker and as fast as you like and looked the dogs nuts
i then traded it for a newer 2000 reg foxeye jc22
the old one was faster but the newer one had more road presense as it was alot bigger and bulkier
either are a really good choice but the newer one has more parts available

Laughing

Clearly people just read the first post, skim a couple of others and then just hit reply.

This was a good thread to test the new old thread alert graphic though.

https://www.bikechatforums.com/files/gap.png

I'm not going to test it by dredging up another thread, but is there an alert than gets shown to the user when they click reply on a 1 year+ old thread warning them that it's probably dead?
If not that might be worth suggesting to korn?
