I'm 'legal' because I don't need to take the test as both my parents were British (though I wasn't born in the UK).

If I want to gain nationality to a new country I'd certainly expect to have to jump through some hoops and certainly wouldn't moan about having to read up in a book - if that's really too much hassle, then maybe try for a different country with easier entry requirements?
