When you do a vehicle check and it comes up with a history but also a plate change would the history always relate to the registration number or the vehicle???

The scenario is a van has shown as a Cat C write off but also shows a plate change, the company I used worded it something like

"This registration has a cat C write off recorded against it 1st Sept 2008"

I don't know what the current situation is but in the early 90's I wrote-off a car and transferred the reg to my replacement vehicle. When I attempted to insure the replacement it was recorded as a write-off.

If you HPI a vehicle, a write-off will be recorded against both the registration number, and the chassis number.

If the vehicle was on a private plate which was taken off, the write-off record will follow the plate. I wrote off a car in 2003, and have since moved my plate from car to car, and each one HPIs with a Cat C record.

It won't affect the value of your vehicle because you can show it's attached only to the plate, not the VIN as well. (Plus in my case, it now shows that my car was written off 7 years before it was built!)
